    Stumped on oil leak

Good that you found the cause of the oil getting on the headers, but putting RTV on the timing gear cover will be a temporary fix at best, as oil in back of it will eventually push it off. If cap screws on the cover are all properly tightened, then you need to remove it and clean the mating...

    3 on the tree

Powerglides are fine for small blocks and MILD big blocks that are not much more than 400 cubes, but I wouldn't put one in back of a souped big block. J. B.

    3 on the tree

I think you need the Tremac. Yes, it is rare on a GM vehicle, but that's what my 73 C25 has, and is what was put in back of 454s that had a 3 speed. Rare, but they do exist. It is the torque, more than horsepower, that can break gears. Stay away from the little pencil sharpener size units...

Regearing Advice... What do I need?

4:10 or 3:73 is what you need if you have an automatic are towing. If you have a stick, 4:10 or maybe even 4:56 if you have the biggest tires. The LS is more of an RPM motor than the regular Small Block, so you need shorter gears. J. B.

What yr grill is this ?

This is about 75 - 77. Later ones didn't have the engine size, 73 - 74 was different - recessed in the grille frame, rather than flush with it. J. B.

    USA made sliding window assembly?

I wish I could find new guides for mine, as I also don't like using foreign-made trash on my 73. J.B.

What's the good AC compressor these days?

Either the A6 or a Sanden. Stay away from the R4. J. B.

    (Advice) PCV Valve strange issue.

Better replace those head gaskets right away. Coolant in the engine oil is bad, as when hot, it leaves a gritty residue in the oil and causes bad wear, as it is an abrasive. J. B.

Making sure inverted flare cooler lines seal

What's even worse is when they don't tighten one, skip one, but tighten them in a 1 2 3 order and warp your rims or brake drums. J. B.

    Test Drive Etiquette

Man, what an A.H. Probably why he needs a car - he destroyed his. I would not let them test drive it, instead take them for a ride. J. B.

Fuel filler issue. This can’t be right.

Since you mentioned that it isn't the right bed, I bet that would be a blast!

Fuel filler issue. This can’t be right.

Looks like your filler hose is partially kinked. I would try to pull it further over the end on the gas cap end. If you can't, try trimming about 1/4 - 1/2 of an inch off the tank end, and see if that opens it up a little. I have never had a problem filling the tanks on my 73. My gas gauge...

    4 x 4 light flickering when engaged.

Does the transfer case shifter have linkage? If so, perhaps that is not adjusted right. I remember the backup lights did not stay on in the 81 C10 that I had. The gearshift linkage was not adjusted correctly, so when you put it in Reverse, the lever didn't go as far up as it was supposed to...

    Factory hei distributor and coil

Also, while you have the rotor off, try to wiggle the distributor shaft sideways. There shouldn't be any play. If there is, then you have to either get a new one for your truck or replace the bushings in your present one. J. B.

    Factory hei distributor and coil

The GM HEI is actually an excellent ignition system, and, since it came from the factory on your truck, it is tailored specifically for your engine. Aftermarket units may not be. Also, they often become obsolete - can't get service parts any more. Keep it stock. J. B.

    Cooling Questions and Concerns

Your temps look fine to me. Overly hot heater hoses would be much more than 143 degrees. I don't think you have anything to worry about. J. B.

Idle Mixture Screws Do Not Adjust Anything on 1974 454.

Was that carb new or used? If used, it probably needs new gaskets. Also, you went from a 305 to a 454. What rear end do you have and what transmission do you have, (if automatic)? You can't use a Turbo 350 in back of a 454, nor can you use a 10 bolt rear end. Both will soon fail. You need...

    Truck Size

Part of the reason for the poor throttle response is the shift to foreign-style power bands - peak torque at 4,000 + RPM vs the 1,500 - 2,400 RPM our engines used to develop peak torque at. Yes, today's have astounding horsepower for a street engine, but in order to get that astounding...

Wow! When the 1973 trucks, Chevy/GMC, Ford, Dodge, were brand new, some were complaining about how huge they were, but that Square Body looks tiny next to that Tundra! J.B.

Valve seals for camel hump heads?

And sunken seats are often a sign of pre-unleaded heads being run on unleaded gas for an extended period of time - the valve and seat pound each other way, little by little. J. B.
