What have you done to your square lately??

@ChuckN, interested to see before and after with the patina juice! Is your truck still original paint? Difference between polishing the paint and the clear? I’ve been thinking of this for Stay Around Brown (aka the dogs’ truck. They love riding in it.) Not for the shine but paint protection...

    First time "real" painting.

@hey mister cool to see you trying new stuff. Couple comments to your post. 1. Paint expense. You’re right, ain’t cheap. But you’ll pay about double at the jobber shops as a cash customer than you can buy quality paint materials for online. Just like everything else in this world….. 2. Why 3...

Badass! No hating on spray in bedliner. I would have done it too, but repainting it was quicker and “free”. Already had enough leftover paint supplies.

Been a while since I had it apart but I believe, plastic threaded inserts that the mounting adjusting screws thread into.

^And there’s load vs pressure charts for all tires. And all tires are rated the same for the same size. Even different load ratings. Only difference is lower load rating tires max out at lower pressures. And load rating for a particular psi is a liner function of sidewall height and width. IE...

^Yup. The tire pressure concept is lost on so many… even “car guys”. It’s sort of mind boggling. I guess it’s the if “some” is good, “more” is better, so “max” (psi) just has to be bestest! Worst part is the effin NHtSA is worse than your shade tree, dont know it all, person. They’ve...

WOW! That’s way more spring than axle! You have basically the same truck and tires as the OP. Maybe share your tire pressures when running around bobtail.

Those are the soft ones. My Big 10 has 8 leafs.

True story. Binding control arm bushings or leaf spring bushings can effectively increase spring rate resulting in a harsher ride. Nice lookin truck though! Classic black Chevy!

Just realized OP said 33-12.50s. I was assuming 31s. That would drop the “comfortable” psi even lower. I don’t think they make that size in D or E load tires, as I recall HD trucks never had 15” wheels. Regardless, big ole tires like that on a relatively light vehicle, it don’t take a lot of...

    Aux battery for audio

You “should” use matched (size and age) batteries to maximize battery life. But in reality, that’s mostly to prevent an old battery dying and taking out the newer one. Capacity is less of a concern unless there’s a gross difference. But that too is a recommendation as different size batteries...

    Aux battery for audio

What you have will work. Just nuances between the different types. Again personal preference is auto sensing relays. Have a Blue Sea ACR in my boat that has been trouble free for over 10 years. 77C10 came with a new diode type isolator installed. PO revived his grampas truck camper hauler...

I didn’t see where he said it’s hitting the bump stops. Yes that would mean the springs are soft, not harsh. Since 87 half tons didn’t come with big blocks it couldn’t have “big block” (stiffer) front springs unless it was originally a 6.2 truck. Base don the OPs description this sounds like a...

    Aux battery for audio

^Sounds like you’re tracking correctly. And since you have a new relay, use that. My comment (as I’ve done similar to several trucks/boats/campers) was in regards to the type of relay specifically. If I’m repeating what you already know, apologies, but maybe it’s helpful for others too. There...

    Random wire

Assuming it’s your 78, my 77 that doesn’t have hacked up wiring does not have a single blue wire that I can see coming out of the firewall. The only blue wires in the region are 2 of them that are parts of 2 plugs fling to the wiper/washer motor. Rubber plug on a single wire sounds like a...

What could this random tube attached to the exhaust be?

99% sure someone fabbed up a connection for a carburetor heat riser for an OE air cleaner like was present on original OE exhaust manifolds.

Rims won't fit on rear with drums.

Not sure if he knows the difference between the 2 types of spacers I and others think, recommended. Believing he does, I presume his response to spacers not working was for a thin slip over spacer not leaving enough threads to get proper engagement on the lugs. It would certainly get “some”...

    Aux battery for audio

^It might still work. But it will likely just be a normal old relay like an old Ford starter relay. And a 37 year old one at that. I’d recommend doing it right. Which may be just paralleling the batteries unless you actually plan on draining the house battery with the truck parked. Or redo...

    Aux battery for audio

Just parallel the 2 batteries nothing else needed. unless you plan on bumpin for long periods of time parked with the engine off, in which case isolate the “house battery” and run the amplifiers load off of it. There’s a current thread on someone doing that on here. But it’s not too complicated...

Need an idea for a good improvised straight edge.

.004 is pretty tight. Decent bubble level. Engineer or architect scale. Drywall square Big speed square or framing square String line is always straight. I’d be thinking fishing line. Tough part is knowing if you’re hitting the line or if there’s a gap of a few thou. Something rigid is better to...

Help finding a short, Who's good at ELECTRICAL???

I like those little Blue Sea fuse boxes. I put the same on the K20 for accessory loads.

Help finding a short, Who's good at ELECTRICAL???

I think the little fuse is like 1/2amp for the lower settings. And it should work on ohms you can test the fuse. Or pop another fuse in it if you have any old glass fuses. Preferably 10A or less for obvious reasons.
