    Peanut Port #14092360

David Visard has a great book on the BBC, and I have been following his work (and others), and used it on small blocks, and it works. Want more power out of my pp heads, so may do some porting. Biggest hurdle is the compression, about 8:1, would like to get it to about 9.5:1. But with the...

    Bonneville 2023 Sept. 8-10

Well Mark, it rained out for the second year in a row. I been thinking 85 c20 running 454 4l80e trans to replace the 400, air dam, MT front runners all around and see how fast I can go. I will be there next year!!!! You Squares, get there, would be super fun to have a "contingent" of trucks...

    Small Block Lifter Premature Wear

Just for some information, Crower hardens their cam shaft to 62 to 64 rockwell C Also the lifters around 60 to 62. That’s with the premium cam cores. In compairson, HSS cutting tools RC is ~64, pretty hard. Use the zink, I like GM breakin oil, and all breakin oil is $$ but it is insurance. That...

    Peanut Port #14092360

Stay with flat tappet hyd if replacing unless it is already a roller, much cheaper, and results are pretty good, and reliable.

    Burning Oil At Start Ups

Rick is right post#2. Hot engine shutoff, oil seeps past the seals, and follows the valve stem, pooling on the valve. Next startup, sucks oil into cylinders, where it is burned, (blue smoke). Guides are also suspect, may be loose.

    Peanut Port #14092360

Hey Mark, this is the cam I am running, came with the motor. Runs 16 lbs vacuum, smooth idle, not much over 4500 rpm's. Also have Air Gap intake, and Flow tech heders. Non of these parts are too expensive. Truck is fun to run, tows great, burns the tires at will...

    Water or Water alcohol injection

As I get closer to building the future power plant for the K20, one of the dilemmas is what compression ratio to run, and still be able to afford the fuel. Wa St has the highest fuel cost in the nation, around $5.00 gal. As a frugal farmer, I get my gas from the Indians, cause it is cheaper, but...

    305 to 454 Engine Swap?

I have the HP MVP, used it to tune the 98 LS1. The LQ4 I will buy the credits, and try to tune it myself, a learning curve, but I have an aptitude for stuff like that. Thanks brother, stay cool today.

Valve Spring Question Mark IV 454

The 924 springs are great for a moderate life cam, but are somewhat heavy @ 175 gr for the spring and retainer. Compare that to comp cams # 26918 beehive and hardened steel retainer @ 125 grams. This combo will give you up to .66 lift. 125 seat pressure and 367 open lbs. PAC springs # 1220 are...

    Mark IV 454 Engine Build

My current motor has an edelbrock air gap intake Flowmaster, 2 inch headers into 3 inch collectors going through Hooker arrow chamber 3 inch mufflers has an RV cam 550 lift duration is like 230 at .050, can is not optimal. Well, the peanut port heads aren’t perfect. They do have velocity, and...

    305 to 454 Engine Swap?

The Mark VI blocks are great, Richard Holdner loves them, HOWEVER, all aftermarket blocks are designed after the Mark IV which has the round hole for cooling, unlike the VI that had the round hole and an oblong cutout. Supposedly makes the cylinders weaker. IV was also two bolt main VS the four...

    305 to 454 Engine Swap?

I believe they come with a 4l80e, an excellent, strong OD trans. I have done this swap and documented it here: https://www.gmsquarebody.com/threads/1973-k20-350-to-454-swap.29840/. Also US shift makes one of the best standalone controllers on the market. Here is the quote to me from them for my...

    Drive shaft rubbing "Y" pipe

I like the sound of true dual pipes, easy to work in stuff underneath, mine exit in front of the rear tires. When I smokem, it makes a huge cloud. Also great if you actually use your truck as a well, truck.

How much more power can a 5.3L make without hurting road manners or gas mileage?

Ok, ok. The old 350 in good shape got 13 mpg. The 355 circle track motor got 11 really fun MPG. The 454 gets about 10-11, puts the other two motors to shame. Wife's 6.2 gets constant 14.5, hauling our 21 ft Imagine trailer it gets between 7 and 9 MPG, has a 6l80. All real numbers from rigs I...
