Glad it's working (i.e. not leaking) but keep an eye on it...I've been told by folks who tried it said it started to leak after a while...DYIers have a bit more flexibility when it comes to risk and your appetite for it will always be greater than a transmission builder's given we do this for a...

Torque Converter and Transmission Assembly Question - Help Needed

Not sure where you are with this but if you fill the converter with a quart or two of fluid, install it so it's fully engaged on both sets of splines and the drive gear then start spinning the converter, you will begin to see fluid dribbling out of the supply line fitting on the trans. That...

    TH350 Valve Body Modded

Check to see if the direct clutch was dual-fed internally. If so, that's likely the reason the 2-3 accumulator circuit was blocked off. Also, measure the 1-2 and 2-3 feed orifice diameter - chances are they were enlarged sigificantly for use with a high stall converter. Was the 1-2 acc spring...

Try it if you want but be prepared to do the job twice if it doesnt work out. Or simply get the correct pump body for that 05 case - not sure why that would be difficult as they're everywhere.

5KCD indicates a 2005 unit/case so you'll need to grab a 2004+ pump body that does not have an O-ring groove on the outer diameter if your existing transmission's pump body has an O-ring. The pump body and case were changed starting in 2004 - the change allowed the use of a perimeter wedge seal...

    8l90E trans shudder

You swapped an 8L90 into a Squarebody truck? If so, good on you for doing it! Would be curious how you went about it (complete engine/harness/PCM/trans swap, all factory from a wrecked Silverado or something similar? As for the shudder symptom, I am in agreement with @TotalyHucked in that it's...

    TH400 Direct Drum/Sprag Question

Replace the torque converter - never reuse a converter!! It's tantamount to putting dirty clothes on a clean body after showering. My converter builder overhauls them all the time. Looks for a good converter builder in your area

    Govoner

This issue is likely caused by a severely worn rear transmission case bushing. When the bushing is worn, it allows the output shsft to oscillate in ways that cause the drive and driven gear on the governor to fall out of mesh. Is this a two-wheel drive truck?

Ive been using those and similar valves for close to 15 years and so far, no issues but have heard/read other builders report those concerne. Use Transgo's TCC reg valve from their SK4L60E shift kit if you have reservations about the Fitzall valve - Ive never had any issues with them either.

Those will all work but I like the Fitzall valve as it completely seals the bore and is appx $25.00. The others convert the PWM to On-off as well and ill use those methods if the bore is otherwise fine when vac tested.

Advice on Transmission Fluid Change for 1980 C10

The pan itself holds 4-5 quarts; the entire system holds like 8-10 (TH350/TH350C)... Anything DexMerc will be fine. If your TH350C (Im assuming that's what you have, correct me if I'm wrong) has a cloth style filter, remove and chuck it in the trash - install a screen style filter with new...

Looking to swap a 1979 Bonanza to an Automatic Overdrive

You're welcome...I'm not sure on the t-case as that would depend on whether you had a driver side or pass side drop for the front diff but a nicely built 700R4, assuming your engine won't be making more than about 500 HP and/or full race, will make for a great cruiser on the hwy while still...

    TH350 shifting troubles

Check your external shift linkage for anything loose, etc. If nothing out of the ordinary is observed, drop the pan and see if you have a bunch of burnt clutch material at the bottom...If so, it's likely the remains of your low reverse clutch pack. Trans would have to come out for overhaul.

    Slow Climb To The Top

You're welcome...For some reason i had it in my head you have a TH350 but since you have a TH400, you wont have any kick down cable but instead, a detent solenoid. Check that detent solenoid by dropping the pan and visually inspecting the solenoid and its wire for wear. There's a little metal...

    Slow Climb To The Top

Hey man, responded to your post on Youtube - here's the copy: I'm thinking either kick down cable possibly out of adjustment, kick-down valve sticking in its bore in the valve body or vacuum modulator system not functioning...I'd first check vacuum at the modulator to ensure you have at least...

    4L80E Clearance Issues?

That sounds like you're leaning towards a TH400 with a gear vendors overdrive unit bolted onto the back of it. The 4L80E would serve both functions but the former would be purely mechanical with (as far as I know) no PCM/ECM/Electronic control..You'd just have the detent solenoid in the...

    4L80E Clearance Issues?

So what type of transmission do you want? If an automatic, what would you prefer to have? The choices could range from a TH350/400 to a 10L90 but prob lies somewhere in between...Given you're likely installing a 6.2, perhaps upgrading it's power output a bit and want overdrive, I'd recommend a...

    4L80E Information Thread

There are some situations having the TC remain in lock up through cruise-down can be detrimental but I don't yet know the specifics so won't say until I can get some concrete info (hopefully early next week).
