    74 c10 5/7 Drop-Will It Rub??

Not knowing what the tire diameter you have, most likely they will rub. There are 2 things you can do before you go to the trouble of front tub inner fenders. Reverse any hardware that bolts items to the inner fenders. Pan head bolts facing up, nuts on the top. Next, install air bags in the...

How many gallons can you put in your gas tank?

The gauge could have an issue. One thing that it could be, is the resistor on the back of the fuel gauge goes bad. The resistor bolts to the back of the gauge on 2 of the contact studs. What I also found out, GM had used different resistor values to match the different senders. The example I...

What did I stumble upon? More pics

The small tag is of course, the original ratio installed. That axle would have been paired up with the NP203 full time transfer case because it has no unlocking hubs. You can install hub locks in that axle if you are using a different part time transfer case. That axle may not be from a GM...

    Tachometer replacement thoughts

Those old clocks are very fixable if you want to take the time to fix it. Typical clock movement with a spring. When the spring winds down, the contacts touch and give it another shot. Many times all you need to do is take your point file and clean off the contacts.

Old as dirt, but still above it

@JamesSam Your TBI will work in a "limp home" if needed without the return line. The early TBI did not run as much fuel pressure as newer units. With out the return you will run at max pressure since regulator will have no release port. You need a fuel return with the TBI. Carburetor engines...

    break qustion

Yes that is a proportioning for the rear brakes. When the truck is empty (lighter and higher) it limits the brake fluid to the rear. When the truck is loaded, the truck lowers in the rear, then you get maximum braking. This is to keep the rear brakes from locking up when the truck is empty...

No, my reply was for @BETO 54 , he has a carburetor. I now see your truck is fuel injected. This has a fuel return. I did quote you because you asked @bucket the question. I will PM you.

That third fuel hose is just a vent, not a fuel return. For years pumps had two lines, fuel in, pressure out. The back side of the pump diaphragm was vented with a small hole in the case. This was how you cold tell the pump diaphragm was worn out, the pump leaked a little fuel. Zoom ahead, EPA...

Brand and Ratio for Ring and Pinion Gears?

This is very important and it is a step many people miss. I use a different method, but usually requires another person. I use a large pry bar against the edge of the carrier. If the carrier edge is not machined smooth (rough casting) I will use the pry bar between the housing and right on the...

Brand and Ratio for Ring and Pinion Gears?

No, I do not know they are best, I only know that run out and fit were good. Some of the questions already posted are very important. Rick explains the gear set you currently have will yield good fuel economy and still pull a small trailer fine. Now if you are looking for quicker acceleration...

Brand and Ratio for Ring and Pinion Gears?

I was going to say, more recently, I've installed several Yukon gear sets with no issue until I read you last line about them being the most expensive. I've used Richmond in the past too, but that was longer ago. When I was building axles at work I always used factory parts as that is what they...

    2011 Suburban Box mystery

GM had tech bulletins on some trucks for the evap valve and box. The replacement parts were slightly different. On your Suburban one of two things, either that is the wrong part, or the bracket it was supposed to be mounted to, rusted away. Need that to pass emissions. Also if the charcoal...

Several different rings, if memory serves, early rings were shorter while later years were wider and in some cases covered the wheel vent/slot holes.

    Narrowing down vibration - questions

Answer to your first question, the axle is very easy to change on your full floater. Remove the 8 bolts and it slides out. To re-install, slide it in, rotate and push down to make the inside splines lift up to move into the differential side gear. This is not your issue. I would remove the...

    Narrowing down vibration - questions

Looking at the drum spinning looks even. Yes I agree with Andrew, bent wheel or bad tire. Looks like just the dust shield is mounted crooked on the yoke, non issue.

Why does no one make aluminum replacement body panels.

Back in 1936 Ford made a promo out of stainless steel. Each piece stamped on the standard dies needed to be reworked as the metal sprung back more than the regular steel did.
