What is the best oil to run in 1984 C10 with high-milage stock 305?

I live in AZ where temps are over 100 regularly and I've always ran 10w30 conventional oil with no problems in a 1975 350. Go with what the book calls for. Change the oil and filter regularly as well, every 3,000 miles. You'll get 300,000 miles out of your engine if you do that. There are dozens...

    Turbo 350 and fluid question.

Drive it some more, say 100 miles then drain it, see if there is any metallic shininess to the fluid, if there's not, you're good to go. Why was it low 3 qts in the first place, a leak?

Engine swap From 250 6 cylinder To 350 sbc

Install an aftermarket external transmission fluid cooler, it will be better anyway.

Think I need new springs? shocks? ROUGH RIDE

Have you checked the tire balance? If they're not balanced you'll get a rough ride at highway speeds. Maybe a weight came off. Also, the shocks look old, I'd definitely replace them. I'm looking to replace the shackle bushings on the front end of my '75 K20, they're original. I just replaced the...

    Fusible Links vs Maxi Fuse

Amen on the fuses. If a link goes, it usually takes other wires with it and makes a melted mess! Plus, thet're hard to find. I've never had a problem on GM products, most Ford.

    Bed liner yes or no

Sounds like you figured it out for yourself, you'll be happy just spraying paint in the bed. I guess it's good to get a lot of opinions, helps you sort out everything.

    Bed liner yes or no

I've used aluminum sheeting screwed down on my old '68 wooden bed and sheets of plywood on metal beds. My current truck has a rubber mat and I like it very much. Things don't slide around much, easy to kneel on, won't rot or degrade but I don't haul dirt and rock either. I would say that in all...

What have you done to your square lately??

Replacing carpet, prepping floor, waiting for seat to be recovered. Excuse all the double images. I'm not too swift on the computer.

    thermostat

If the engine does not maintain a steady temp such as 195 degrees when warm, you need a thermostat. I replace the thermostat, hoses, flush the cooling system and replace with a 50/50 mix of antifreeze/coolant and water whenever a buy a used vehicle. Also, it never hurts to do a pressure check on...

    New (dirty) oil filters?

I wouldn't be concerned. What you do is fine, at least you look. I've seen faulty filters over the years, very rare though, good eye!

Two tone paint jobs with white steel wheels

Dark green sounds good, that way you don't have to worry about getting under the hood or door jams. White bumper and white wheel. I think that would look nice.

    Tailgate Replacement

No wrecking yards down your way? My local yard has about a dozen of them laying around. I just picked one up off the ground a few days ago, it still had the brushed aluminum piece on it. I leaned it up off the ground so no one would step on it and ruin it. I would have bought it but I was on my...

    Spare tire mount?

Look in the LMC catalog, there are two or three different kinds. Mine was missing under the bed so I bought one that mounts in the bed. I placed it to the front on the passenger side. If you have a torch and welder, you can make your own. I personally prefer the under the bed mount, out of sight...

I'd get the old one repaired. I had a GM, 1972 Olds 455 radiator repaired last year for $60, no plastic!

    Dome light

Trace the feed to the lamp. Mine is a '75 model, I don't know if yours is different but splice the feed to the lamp through the switch, on or off. The hardest part will be locating the feed.

    Slight hood bow

As more than one person has told me over the years: keep the hinges oiled! I think that's the biggest cause of bent hoods, hinges that seize. Of course, as soon as it's forced, it's bent. I've been lucky, I'm one of those that keeps things well oiled and greased. A couple squirts of lube a...

Do you have a photo? There's always a way to get at them. While you're waiting to figure it out, spray penetrating fluid on the bleeder valves, it'll help.
