What have you done to your square lately??

Nice! I got my first one in '99 I think. It was a black one too, but with black interior and gold stripes. It was stolen and then never recovered. I bought a maroon '89 and it just wasn't the same, so I bought another black on black '86 in '02. It's the one I talked about. I swapped in a T56...

I finally remembered to double check. The bolts are 1.5" long. Course thread, 1/2".

What have you done to your square lately??

Awesome! I've got an '86 350 TPI Camaro that I need to get back on the road again. Years ago I did aluminum heads, an old Crane CompuCam, Accel injectors, etc. I ran out of budget and always had the intent to swap out the intake setup. It's a very stout street engine, but of course there's no...

What new tools have you got lately?

Is that the equivalent to the ones you get at parts stores? With the cylinder, the squeeze bulb and the blue fluid?

It just looks like carbon buildup in the upper cylinders from here.

Wait, you have a FIRST intake? As in, TPI? If so, how do you like the setup? Did you buy it new or used?

Just off memory, they are 1/2" x13 bolts, maybe 1.25 or 1.5 inch long. I can go out and check to be sure in the AM, if I remember.

    700r4 cross member

That's the correct crossmember for your specific trans/t-case mount, but not correct for an '84. However, that really has nothing to do with your current issue. An '84 style crossmember would be in the way too. Most headers, especially the cheaper ones, typically hang low on our truck...

What have you done to your square lately??

Have any hunches on what went wrong? I still haven't thought of anything else that could have caused that. Just the collapsed lifters theory. Oh and just to be clear for others that are wondering what happened, those turned rockers are the effect, not the cause. @PeteJr

Honestly, I'm certainly not any kind of LS fan boy, but this is an application that an LS would probably be my first choice in a swap. Not the typical junkyard 5.3, but something way more fun like an LS3. Just for an example.

Well that's unfortunate. It could also be a cracked head or block. Taking it apart should provide answers.

    Engine Paint Color Question

Nah, someone has lied to you. Generally, that actually IS ballpark accurate though. Emissions came in on a lot of models when engines were still orange, but there were still heavier trucks (like my '78 C20) that had no emissions and were painted blue. And then on board computers came in when...

What have you done to your square lately??

Rick is correct. The rockers have guided tips and are not meant to be used with guide plates. There's a flaw in the slaw here. I'm not sure what it is, but my first guess is a lack of oil supply to those lifters and they collapsed, letting the valvetrain clatter and come out of line.

Maybe the gauge reads lower than it should? In which case, warm could actually be really hot.

My Rear End Build For My Low Buck Street/Race Truck

Were your ears burning? I don't remember exactly why, but I was just thinking about this truck of yours yesterday.

Rims won't fit on rear with drums.

Likely just from contact on the wheel balancer hub. There's also evidence of a center cone used to hold the wheel on the balancer.

    Tripod mirrors on lowered trucks?

I have them on my K5 and my stepside too. They are useful enough. No worse than the mirrors on my '90 SS or my Chevelle wagon. Actually, the Chevelle's mirrors may be less useful. Or my Impalas, they are as big as a truck but don't even have a mirror on the passenger side.

Rims won't fit on rear with drums.

Normally yes, weights on both sides. But some goofballs such as myself don't like weights on the outside. Not just because of looks, but also damage to the exposed rim surface. But, that is a lot of weight for just a 33" radial. I'm guessing a combo of a heavy sided tire and a rim that doesn't...

Without going out to the barn and getting verification, those universal type wheels have a center that is pressed differently than the original 70's/80's GM wheels. The GM wheels have a "deeper" lugnut area I think.

    Where does this go???

The truck will either have a speaker in both ends of the dash, or the center speaker. But not both. I don't recall which location used those colors, but I do remember that the lighter shade of green is the ground.
