    Transfer case identification

Well, I ordered a remanufactured NP208. That's all. I'm just stoked about it, lol.

    Transfer case identification

Probably should have read this before posting, lol Thread 'Transfer Case Info for OEM Squarebodies' https://www.gmsquarebody.com/threads/transfer-case-info-for-oem-squarebodies.3477/ I have a manual transmission, so I have a 32 spline case, simple as that, lol

    Transfer case identification

I'm leaning towards it being a 32 spline. The attachments are from power train products website for transfer cases. Only the 32 spline is noted for manual transmission. Also, the number sets for the 27 don't come close, but the 32 spline numbers do. Feeling pretty confident that I have a...

    Transfer case identification

It is the original transfer case for sure. We bought this truck new in 83 and it's never been modified or abused.

    Transfer case identification

I'm about to get a remanufactured transfer case, and was hoping to identify what I have without taking it out and counting splines. Do I have a 14020892? I really have no idea, but this tag is supposed to tell me. It seems to be the closest match considering there are numbers missing. TIA

    Valve covers

Well, you were right. It was loose. I was afraid I may have messed up the valve covers. Dried up everywhere but the front main seal on the timing cover.

    Converting to single tank

    Sounds pretty straight forward. Thanks

    Converting to single tank

How hard is it to convert from a dual fuel tank, to a single. We've owned this truck since new, and I don't remember the fuel tank switch valve ever working. Is it a big deal?

    Valve covers

Hadn't even crossed my mind. Good advice, will check next.

    Valve covers

She is just pouring oil from around the oil pan. Those gaskets are dried out too. The two oil pans are for the transfer case, which gets replaced around the end of this month. All this is over night, not even a full 24 hours, lol.

    Nasty gas tank

And, I think I got a wheel bearing going out, lol. Passenger side hub is warm and something was growling when I got speed up for a couple miles. For another post, lol.

    Nasty gas tank

Wow, thanks for all the advice guys. So here's what I did. I forgot to mention that I had put some, well ok, a lot, of Lucas fuel treatment and injector cleaner into the tank along with some octane booster when I first put fresh fuel in it. I think it may have dissolved a bunch of varnish into...

    Nasty gas tank

Whew, whole shop smells like somebody been finishing furniture down here. No wonder it was missing, lol

    Nasty gas tank

It ain't rusty, just very yellow and smells of lacquer. Was causing a stutter, maybe. Old quadrajet had issues. Anywho, yeah fresh gas, new carb, drive the **** out of it. Fingers crossed, lol.

    Nasty gas tank

Ok kids, I'm looking for some advice. My old 83 has bad gas in it. I syphoned out as much as I could. I had put about 10 gallons in on what I thought was a dry tank, but I guess there was a gallon of so of bad in there. Well, the new gas went bad in about two weeks, and boys, I mean bad. So...

And tires, we put tires on it today. 33x9.45x16 buckshot mudders.

    Valve covers

Ok, got all the pieces back on we wanted to keep, the rest goes into he trash, especially that quadrajet. Great when they work right, but I don't have the best luck with them. I have good luck with a Holley. Fuel line issues to work out, some linkage too, and it's back on the road.

    Valve covers

Little black paint hides a multitude of sins, lol. We'll be replacing them in the future anyway. Gaskets glued on to the covers, let them set a bit. Studs for valve cover installed. Be using spreader bars too. More to come.

    Valve covers

No questions, just showing what I'm up to. I replaced the gaskets on these valve covers back in the early 90s, so no shock that the gaskets dried out and started leaking. I guess my dad tried tightening them down while I was on the service, especially the driver side, lol. I know I didn't put...

    Front brakes

Well, so much for my restoration plans, lol. I need this truck and soon. Anywho, my first time ever working on a solid axle front end. Somewhat intimidating for some reason, idk why. Turned out to be a piece of cake. I think the hardest thing I had to do was putting the studs back in, lol...

    Key stuck in ignition

Yup, totally agree with this. I don't trust it. It still wants to stick, a little. So yeah, new column is on the replacement list along with most of the interior.

    Key stuck in ignition

Done, all back together exactly like it came apart. I'm probably gonna replace the entire steering column when we start renewing this truck, but for now, it has a functional steering wheel. Brakes and transfer case next. Needs to be reliable enough for farm work and running to the store for fuel.

    Key stuck in ignition

I couldn't do it. I pulled it back apart this morning, fiddled with that steering wheel lock, wire brushing and cleaning/lubing the barrel it rides in until it finally started working right, not great, but good enough.

    Key stuck in ignition

I'm not putting the wheel lock back in. Everything works great until that goes in. No amount of lube seems to make it happy, and honestly, I don't need the wheel lock anyway. We don't even lock our doors out here, lol.
