    Correcting uneven suspension

After a LOT of reading up on them, I decided against the disc conversion. I already have the JB7 brakes, and I never really had much desire for more stopping power. And regardless, based on what I've read, most say the disc conversion (using the factory Chevy calipers) doesn't really give more...

    Cracked frame/shock mounts help

Everyone gave great advice, and the ORD braces are also a great idea, I run them on my truck as well. One thing I'll add... I'm not sure if this was the cause or not, but never use air shocks or those shocks with helper springs built in on these trucks (or any truck for that matter). I wouldn't...

    Correcting uneven suspension

Well this is a first. Somehow this made it 11k miles without leaking, but obviously that seal didn't press very tightly against the brake drum. I can only assume this is why it was leaking. Since I don't use or even have a parking brake anyway, and my rear brakes need replacing, I might take...

    Correcting uneven suspension

Literally just finished putting the brakes on the truck, about to put the wheels on it and drive it. Saw this puddle next to my passenger rear wheel. This thing is pissing me off ‍ :flame: . It's gear oil, not brake fluid.

That's a sharp truck, the wheels set it off well. Good pic too that shows how much the color flips depending on where the sun is.

Better pic, before the diff blew.

    Correcting uneven suspension

Haha, it's actually Toyota Inferno, IIRC it was a 2016 color. My camera is terrible at catching it under my LED shop lights, in the son it's a shade more red with a good bit of metallic.

    Correcting uneven suspension

New springs made a HUGE difference. It was 3/4", now it's roughly 3/16". Also sand blasted and painted the front diff while I had it out. Grenading the diff sucked, but in the end I now have a TrueTrac and my truck doesn't sit like it has a flat tire anymore. Calling it a win

Thanks. I was worried for nothing, the bushings popped right out

    1984 K10 Steering Column question.

Not sure about the squares, but I have seen a lot of GM cars that had automatic columns used in manuals, I have a 69 Cutlass with one (just pop the shift lever out of it)... you might even be able to put your manual section out of your old column in the auto so you don't have the shift lever...

    Correcting uneven suspension

My springs should be to me tomorrow, and hopefully they're the correct springs this time. But it occurred to me that I have the HD ORD bushings in my springs, which IIRC have bigger holes so I have to use the ORD bushings now. I haven't tried yet, I will tonight, but has anyone successfully...

    Correcting uneven suspension

Just got back from vacation and they sent me the wrong springs, they sent springs for a 72 body :banghead: . Can't call until tomorrow.

    Correcting uneven suspension

They're actually sending me a new pair . I think the lower one was bad, and it was a combination of height and spring rate.

    Correcting uneven suspension

I suspected this would be a giant PIA, but I need to give both Skyjacker, and Summit Racing (where I ordered them) some very high praise for how they've handled this so far. They warrantied both front springs, and I'll have my warranty replacements either tomorrow or Wednesday  . So far...

    Correcting uneven suspension

On the bright side, grenading my front diff led to a bunch of "someday" repairs. Finally getting these springs fixed, sandblasted and painted the front axle while it's out, and I finally got around to finessing the body lines.

    Correcting uneven suspension

Now the question of... which spring is correct? I'm guessing the taller one because it had more rake on the driver's side than it should (in my opinion), and that's the side with the lower spring. Just another confirmation... With the truck frame sitting on jack stands, having both stands at...

    Correcting uneven suspension

Confirmed this is a spring issue. But I'll still install these on the opposite sides just to keep them happy. This pic is both springs laying flat on the flat floor, side-by-side.

    Correcting uneven suspension

I called Skyjacker today and they are pretty amazing. He said they will stand behind it but he wants me to swap the springs from one side to the other before they do it just to confirm that it's actually a spring issue. I'm almost positive this is a waste of time, but I completely understand why...

    Correcting uneven suspension

Couldn't get the level across the frame anywhere, something is always hanging down. But I was able to get the level across the springs... First I checked the point where the springs are currently sitting on the jack stands to confirm the floor is level, and at that point it's level. When I move...

    Correcting uneven suspension

Good call, I think I can get a level across the frame right behind the front springs.

    Correcting uneven suspension

Yes, those are all new. I've measured all of them too. I'll quit being lazy and swap springs, that'll tell me for sure if it's springs. Will be pretty simple with the axle out

    Correcting uneven suspension

My 86 K20 has always sat about 3/4" lower on the driver's front than the passenger front does, and the OCD in me absolutely hates it. I have 4" lift Skyjacker EZ Ride springs and it's been like this since they were new, I actually reached out to them but they didn't seem quick to help and it...

Which posi unit do you like?

Those are actually quite a bit cheaper than a TrueTrac. I don't have any experience with them, only saing that because I don't understand the "get what you pay for" comment. An Auburn for a Dana 44 is about $415, whereas a TruTrac is about $650.

Which posi unit do you like?

I've had a Detroit locker in my 14 bolt on my K20 for years. It has about 11k miles of hard use on it, I go to the dunes a lot with it. It hooks like crazy but it did take some getting used to, I have 33" mud tires and if I'm driving curvy back roads in the rain I go easy through the curves. My...
