Gear swap

Someone wants to give me a set of 3.73 ring and pinion out of a 2002 GMC Sierra 2500 HD, would they possibly fit in my 1980 GMC 1 ton dually with a Dana 70 rear end? What other information would be needed?

Not likely. There should be some sort of identification numbers cast into the carrier to tell you exactly what carrier it is.

The 80 dually would have a D70HD, I don’t know what the 05 would have but I do know they did not us the HD IF it had a D70. Need to figure out what axle is in the 05.
