So I cleaned the 42 year old gunk from the bulk head and added fresh dielectric grease and they are back in action

Over the weekend, I replaced the ignition module with a Napa Echlin, since I’d read here many times that aftermarket “high output “ were junk. Figured I’d put the aftermarket one in the glovebox and put the other one in since I’d heard so many good things.

Then I descended into the 7th circle of ignition hell.

Occasional misses. Hmmm. Ok, the carbon button was looking ragged, so I replaced that and the rotor since the coil pickup tab was a little tweaked. Seemed to be ok.

Then it wouldn’t start at all. Too much heat paste splooged onto the pickup wheel points. So I cleaned everything up with some CRC lectra-motive and put everything back together. Seemed…ok. I sensed an occasional stumble.

Stopped at my buddy’s house for a minute. Started her up, and ignition was immediately on and off again, but this time shut off altogether. Wiggled the plugs, no improvement.

Got the tools out and the old ignition module, double checked everything. Fired right up and running strong. Drove all the way home, no stumble or shut off. The only constant factor is the ignition module. Guess I’ll try to find another backup module.

Unfortunately it seems ignition modules are hit or miss these days, no matter the brand. Sadly enough

First bath and a quick coat of wax. Tightened up the last few bits and pieces to go back on, stuck the Chevrolet emblem to the rear door (Glad that came off the old door ok. Apparently nobody reproduces that emblem) and it's officially back on the road! :) Well, at least it made it to the gas station and back. lol She's no beauty queen, because a painter I am NOT...... but still turns some heads. Wife should be happy, since it hasn't been in once piece since October. lol

Pulled the rear tires and cleaned up the rims a bit and shot some Winter Gray on them. Tossed the polished up centers on them. Now just have to find some beauty rings...

Tried it both ways with no luck. Wacked it as hard as I dared lol. Gonna take it back to Orielly's and hope it's still under warranty
If you are returning it I might not mentioned you were beating it with a hammer. ;)

Yesterday was such a nice day that I took a cruise out in the county, and stopped by Heavy Metal Custom Shop in town. The Edelbrock tuning had been going ok, but it was rich at the top end at WOT. Like…filthy pig rich, 10.7-10.8 on the AFR and would start to choke itself out.

So when I stopped by I asked them what jet sizes they had. They didn’t have the 0.92, but did have the 0.89 (stock is 0.95 on the 650 cfm 1906). So, being inspired by the Mike Finnegan “go big or go home “ school of thought, I took it apart and switched to the .089 on the secondaries.

For the warm up, filled up downtown with some Ethanol-free, splashed in some octane boost, and went back out in the county. Held my breath, rolled into it to full WOT, and let ‘er eat.

It stayed in the low 12s on the AFR , and pulled SO much harder. What. A. Difference. Shockingly better, to the point that I had to let off because I had the tach buried past 5k on the stock tach, and I didn’t want to hurt it.

When I get the finances sorted, next is that vacuum gauge so I can use the vacuum in conjunction with the AFR to set the step up springs perfectly.

Got home and gave her a spit bath. I’ll call it a win for the day.

Thanks!

Just have them laying about in the bed and haven't hit them with any poly yet. Waiting for some better weather before that happens. 60 degree days here aren't the best for curing in Mass right now. Appreciate the heads up
Yes, if you’re goin to use a built up sealer and not a penetrating sealer, all sides need to be done, or the moisture will be absorbed in from the unfinished sides and lift the finish off. At least that was my experience with a wood deck recently.

Nice work! I’m convinced both Eddy carbs on the squares could use some tuning. They both run fine but just “feel” and smell a bit rich.
Definitely like items 98 and 99 on the ever growing to do list.

Went after that kick down cable leak on my transmission and decided I would also get a transmission pan with a drain plug! Got everything then removed the kick down cable from my TH350 along with the internal wire/linkage. Installed a kick down cable delete fitting in the transmission housing, buttoned everything up, topped the fluid off and drove it. No leaks so far.
