Theres a couple of trucks that I've fallen in love with the stock 80s two tone. I really like the light blue dk blue combo and the light blue white combo. Especially with a little wear on it

Also a clue to where I live if you don’t look at my location on the left where yours says Miami….
I strongly considered painting the secondary color white, but kept original colors. Could vinyl wrap it white pretty easy though!

Yes...but I seem to only like 2 tone when it's faded and rough. Go figure.

I know. The thought had crossed my mind. Most of what I've seen they cut the frame and put a short bed on it. Can you cut down bed too?

I watch Puddin's Fab Shop on Youtube when I can. and he had a short series of videos on doing exactly that - had a damaged longbed and he cut/welded/reinforced the frame and then cut down the longbed sides to match what the measurements of a factory shortbed to make everything look right. Did the welds at the front bed coreners if I recall, that way they wouldn't show on a smooth flat panel.

Just found the video. Going to watch it tonight. It would be really nice to do that and be able to keep the paint!

Great photo and backdrop. Climbed Liberty Ridge in ‘05, I miss my days on Rainier. The truck takes the cake tho.

@YakkoWarner didn't realize you had to take off of both the front and back of the bed.
I feel like I’ve seen shortbed cut downs that cut both ends near the end, some that only slice the front, like 6” back from the front of the bed. Haven’t researched enough but regardless it’s major surgery and the need to vertically seam the bed panels back together.

I took the “faded” off this one with a quick polish but it qualifies as rough…. Man, old paint is soft. Entire truck buffed out in about the time it takes to do one bedside on good clear coat!

For those that noticed, drivers side looks like a bad cab mount, sagging. It was perplexing at first as there is no rust and basically no degradation in the undercarriage.
What I found recently when I was patching up a bad 50 year old weld on the drivers side aftermarket gas tank, is the big blocky steel tank sits up just high enough that it keeps the bed from resting on the frame like it should by about 1/4”.
Someone got the tank installed just a hair too high and left it that way.

I didn't know they ran the chrome early style dog dish hubcaps through '77.
The dealership took Dad's 75 Sierra Classic to a shop off-site to add the extra tank, and they did a hack job on it. From what I've read and heard, that's unfortunately commonplace.

Ya I’m not certain if those are/were OE hubcaps. But I think 77 was around the time that GM changed the style to the “80s” style dog dish caps. Highly likely though as the truck was essentially original owner and never modified elsewhere thru the years.
This tank is kind of a hack job too. After seeing it, made me wonder why peeps or shops wouldn’t have just bought factory tank and hardware. 20 gal vs this one is about 22gal best I can tell. Maybe all the parts from GM cost way more than fabricating them?

Iirc, the original brochures show the newer style hub caps for '77.

The old style hub caps look perfect on that truck.

Thinking about what I wrote: I'm thinking that the '78 Sierra shop truck had the white version of this cap on it when we got it. We bought it in May or early June of '78, and after it was wrecked at less than a year old, it got the GM factory wagon wheels, painted Colonial Yellow like the rest of the truck. Actually I believe the customizing was a gradual process, taking about a year or so.
