Floor and rocker options

Hey guys, I need advice on floor and rocker options for my 87 blazer. I want to do front floors, inner and outer rockers and supports. I am looking on autometaldirect and i am having some confusion with the options.

For floors, the options are “front cab floor half drop in” and “front cab floor half replacement” - the replacement style has extra metal that kicks down at a 90 and looks sort of like an inner rocker patch.

For inner rockers, there is “innner rocker panel full” and “inner rocker panel patch”
The full looks like a factory type stamped piece and the patch looks like something bent up in a hand brake.

Basically i want as much coverage as possible and I can trim or whatever as needed. I am unsure if one option is better than the other and hoping you guys can chime in with advice. As far as current condition, the floors are not as bad as you’d probably expect for the north east but they are definitely soft and someone has patched them up before and I want to remove as much as needed which i know will end up being more than meets the eye. So whatever panel option is more oriented towards the above description is what I want to go with.

Hey Rob, I actually work for AMD, hopefully I can shed some light. Throw some pictures up if you have that, pics always help.

The "drop in" front floor pan patches are more for guys with rough trucks that just want to keep them on the road, these are kinda meant to just drop in and glue/screw/rivet/whatever on top of what's there.

The "replacement" style patch is the more accurate panel, this is the one meant to be used to do a proper replacement/repair. That little kick down is the inner rocker piece.

The inner rockers are kinda the same story. The "extended" version is meant to be used as a patch peace more than anything. The "full" version is the proper, OE style replacement.

As cheap as they are, I personally would grab both versions of the inner rocker panels, that way you have plenty of metal. And the extended versions can be used for patches of any kind where you'll need the flat metal.

Thank you for the information. I took your advice and placed an order. Just wondering. Is there anything available for the middle portion of the floor, the panels under and behind the seats?

Yeah, we have 2 more pieces for the floor, but that's about it. We're looking into doing more for the Blazers but haven't really gotten started yet

I would advise to brace the area around the front seat, rear bolt holes.
The way the seat frame is so short and the seat overhang adds a ton of stress to that area. Typically stress cracks will form.

Huck I see your point about the front floor half especially since the side bends down like the original floor. However the rot always seems to creep further back toward seat and toward hump and those don’t have enough metal.

Yeah, it's hard to cover every different situation. Where do you draw the line of making patch panels vs whole floors, ya know? That was long before I was involved in R&D but I don't think I'd change it, it'd be very hard to make a single panel much larger because of all the different contours once you get past the footwell area

You have to wonder if GM had originally designed the floor to curve up next to the kick panel would they have had such a rot prone area to begin with?

For the trucks, a full floor replacement would be the next step. Hopefully the same in the future for the K5s as well

For the trucks, a full floor replacement would be the next step. Hopefully the same in the future for the K5s as well
TotallyHucked, you dont happen to know what the underneath of the back floor (bed) and the step-up from the front floors is supposed to look like?

For more context, my rear floor looks like its been replaced but is loaded with bolts. The step-up is as well. Underneath the rear floor is cross braced with a couple rows of uni strut, not really a terrible idea i suppose. The strut is bolted to the floor all the way across. Just wondering what is supposed to be there, if anything. Added a few pics for reference. Not that I am looking for original but Im a decent welder and might be able to do a little better than the last guy…

WOAH. That is NOT how it should be lol. Somebody replaced that floor but didn't have a welder and bolted it to the cross rails and everything else. Holy cow I've never seen anything like that :eek:

This is what it should look like. The only bolts should be across the front edge (and they're alot smaller than what's all over your floor), the holes for the seat to bolt to and a few "bed bolts" to bolt it to the frame rails.

Awesome, thanks for the pics. I am a decent welder and work with sheet metal so I think I can bend up some hat channel and weld it in place and fill the holes as well. Do they sit on the frame or no?
