Hello all
I now have the A833 transmission and associated parts out of the truck if anyone is
interested. I am trying to recall who had expressed interest a few months back. They
were from north Dakota I beleive. So if anyone needs one, no reasonable offer refused.
That was me. I sent you a message.

I hate to bump an old thread but.... does anyone know the thread and pitch for the stock shifter ball? Mine is cracked and the sift pattern is missing so I'm looing for either an aftermarket or oem one.

the knob "casing" itself is cracked off and the button is split in half (with the OD portion gone)

I'll probably just replace it with a new knob with the correct 1-4 pattern and give up the OD for 4th.

Thanks for the info.

We have absolutely no problem bumping old threads and bringing them back to life. Especially something like this one. We don't get all that butt hurt about duplicate threads either, but do prefer to add info to old threads to keep them alive so that all info is compiled into one thread. Asking a question usually get's an answer so it does add content and info to valuable older threads that need to be brought back to life.

So is it correct that to remove the shift arm on this trans there are two retaining springs (one on each side, I assume passenger side and driver side) that need to be depressed and the shift arm will come right out? I am replacing the vinyl floor covering in my truck and it would be a bit easier with the sift arm removed, I'm reluctant to mess with the shift linkage and remove the whole shifter.

And to note, there is 2 different shifters possible. One has a round shift stick, and one is the rectangular Hurst type stick. I've been told, the shifter that comes with the Hurst style stick is a rebuildable shifter suing Hurst Comp Plus parts kits, and the round stick is NOT rebuildable and best to just buy an aftermarket Hurst Competition Plus complete shifter and replace it.

Thanks, mine is the round tube. It's the lesser desirable aluminum case version of the trans, I'll replace it with a NV3500 i have on standby when it wears out, so likely won't need to replace the shifter

Yes.

Insert shim stock on both sides of the shifter and it should pull right out.

K

Thank you for the confirmation!!

I never understood why the aluminum case was less desirable. I hadn't heard of them having any problems. I know the 4x4 units with the Tcase adapter built into the tailshaft housing is cast iron, but even Muncie used alluminum cases for the M20, M21 and RockCrusher M22. The case never seemed to be an issue in any of those either and I beat the livin' dog snot outta an M21 and M22. Broke a couple 2nd gears racing but never a case.

Only thing I've seen mentioned is the bushing for the input (or output) shaft wear out and the case being aluminum they get wore badly there. Depending on how other projects go I will hopefully pull this trans before it dies for the NV3500 swap, likely Fall 2025. When that happens I'll post it for sale for someone else to enjoy, hopefully after a rebuild. Truck has at least 135k on it...likely 235k from pedal wear... so trans is due a refresh.

M22s and 833s wear out the countershaft bores on the m22s it causes a leak behind the bell housing, the cure is bore and bush the case. The backyard fix is cut a gasket out of copper to seal the end of the transmission to the bell housing.
