I have a np833 in my 84 c10 behind a 427 big block. i love the trans. i have 373 geared rear end and the truck runs great. you can get rebuild kits from BREWERS, a web site dedicated to mopars. but they have the rebuild kits for the MM7/MY6 gm transmissions. I think the only part that's exclusive to GM is the input shaft. there is another web site called passon performance out of PA that sells parts for the NP883. hope this helps.

Good info and awesome truck! My 833 is a MM7 steel body with the flat Hurst shifter in my 85 K10. Midwest Transmissions rebuilt mine and I just recently got a shifter from Shifter Doc.com. I plan to rebuild my wore out shifter and save it or sell it.

The aluminum case 883s wear out the case where the countershaft rides, like the Muncie m22s,they can be bushed. The cast iron cases don't. Just FYI for people looking for these gear boxes.

That sounds a bit heavy.

I was able to lift it out and back in without assistance (not like a TH400, for example, where I use the floor jack).

I'll add a little here, parts are available for the transmission, the shifter is the hen's tooth. The Hurst Comp Plus shifter for the Mopar NP833 will not work on the Chevy since it's an overdrive unit. I found a rebuilt unit at Shifter Doc.com and snapped it up as it was the only one I had seen after three years of searching. As rare as the My6 is, the shifter is far rarer.
Wow that's good to know thank you

I do not know this for a fact, just a thought, from knowing how they achieved overdrive on these gear boxes. If I had access to one I would try a standard 4 speed shifter and turn the 3/4 shift lever 180* on the side of the transmission.
