gas tank wont fill all the way

i have a 86 k5, years ago when it was my daily driver i never had issues filling up the tank, now its back on the road after several years and when i fill it up it will only fill up about 3/4 of the tank before the nozzle shuts off, if i have the gas filling at full blast it will shut off a little after a half tank, i can hear it gurgling and if i wait a little bit i can get more gas in if i just barely pull the trigger then it will fill all the way to the gas cap and when i stop i can hear it gurgling again and it will slowly go down, if i do this over and over i can get it pretty much full but it takes forever, i pulled the rubber line off the vent line and as far as i can tell it doesn't seem to be plugged, anyone have any ideas what the issue may be?

Depends on the pump nozzle type. I despise the newer vapor recovery styles. But all you can get up here. Some of them make such a good seal I can only get a couple gallons in before it spits back. Have to wedge it at an angle to fill.
If this is happening with an old school pump nozzle then I’d be thinking collapsed or linked filler hose or ???
Because shouldn’t need the tank vent if the nozzle isn’t sealing tight to the fuel filler.
God bless the Midwest. Was back there a week ago. Most every pump (I filled up 4-5x in different locations) was a good ole “farm nozzle”.

And then there are those new style self-sealing fuel cans. What overpaid engineer came up with those? Hopefully some of this idiocy will be curbed soon.

Engineer is not to blame. Govt is.
They’re literally unsafe, in more ways than one, which is the ironic part.

Some of the K5’s that used to come through when I worked at a full service gas station we would have to insert the nozzle upside down for them to take fuel
I have to turn the nozzle sideways on my 86 K20 when it gets almost full.
But, it has the larger opening for leaded gas.
