454 ACDelco water pump

I saw a thread, but didn't know what protocol is.
I have an ACDelco water pump fixing to put in the rebuilt engine.
1) Clean-up and install? Worry about age.
2) Get a rebuilt? Same ACDelco, they don't seem to make a rebuilt kit...I know I don't need HP.
3) So, is this std. Or reverse? Yes, think newb, toddler running around with arms in the air. My head hurts.

I would swap it just to get rid of that rust. Just try to find a new pump vs. a remanufactured.

I'm not certain on big blocks, there may have been a longer version and a shorter version (definitely the case on SBC)

If it turns the same rotation as the crankshaft then its standard rotation.

Depending on how long it's been sitting on a shelf and the climate you may be better off just buying new. Here in the hot, dry desert I have bought new parts and not got around to installing them for years. The seals and gaskets dry out and shrink. The first time you use it, it leaks.

Yes, I meant new replacement acdelco. I assumed they were rebuilt.

There are reverse rotation fans and clutches as well. They are usually used in serpentine belt systems where the belt snakes around the pulley and spins it backwards. On the pump, the only positive way to know is to pull the back cover off and look at the fins on the impeller. But yes, they all need to match.

The belt set up pictured should be standard rotation, there is a multi groove belt there but it's not routed like a true reverse rotation serpentine belt.

As far as long and short pumps, that is a real thing however the set up pictured is a long type. The short pumps were 60's applications with very different brackets.

Buy a new pump. Don't gamble the cost of a rebuild on an old pump that costs $50.

It shouldn't reverse should it, lol? That's cool if it actually charges something.

Cool, got the long pump, and going new.
I have the acdelco model#'s. Any prob with new duralast? Otherwise parts express has acdelco at $200 + shipping.

Everyone has a store preference, I like O’Reilly’s while lots of folks like NAPA. When I built my 454 I bought a new pump from O’Reilly’s.

Personally, I view Autozone as a last resort. AZ typically has cheap parts and (locally) a completely useless staff.

$200 for an acdelco is ridiculous. That brand isn't what it used to be. They have outsourced everything like everyone else to stay alive. I'd take duralast over them 100% of the time. If you want quality, it seems the small US companies are the way to go. Moroso, Tuff Stuff, PowerMaster, etc. Otherwise, keep the receipt and use the replacement warranty when necesarry.

Yeppers, about $300 @ autozone or O'Reillys.
Autozone has a duralast std. And heavy duty.
O'Reillys has Murry std or heavy duty.
All those mentioned above around $75
I have a model# for tuff stuff USA made, but high performance flow. Just under $200.
That's why my head a spin and I have trouble making decisions LOL. Probably dura or Murray.
