In order to do a nice job on making the motor to look like new money the motor would need to be pulled and semi took apart ..

But I'm not that motivative .. (Somewhat of a lazy SOB)
It runs the best as is, all that work just to pretty it up is more than I want to do..
Cleaning it with some elbow grease and a rattle can is as far as I'm going, at least for now ..

Could pull the intake and glass bead blast it, but I decided to screw it !!

Perhaps in the future I'll get around to doing it right ??

On the radiator ...
Been waiting for a local radiator shop to sell me the lower hose outlet ...
Been close to two weeks waiting for his order to come in .. !
Now I'm not in a big hurry, but does feel like I'm stuck in a eddy here, getting nowhere fast type deal ...

Called "Griffin Radiators" ... They said it would be shipped out tomorrow ...

Once again hunting down parts has been most difficult ..
Repainting the valve covers, needed to remove the three rubber grommets that's been there since the 70's ..

Valve covers came from a Chevy van, has the extended oil fill tube which makes it easy to pour oil into the lifted 4X4 truck without climbing on it ..

Packed the valve covers with me to 5 parts stores to show them what was needed .. After bout 20 minutes at each store came back to the shop without the new grommets ..

Jumped on Google and got them coming ..

Top hose is in the think tank ...

Parts houses didn't have a hose that would meet the needs of what I have going on ...
Had to order one that's got a bend in it, hopping it will be long enough to cut that off and will work ?
Soon to see what there is to see .. !

Custom hand made ..

I'm digging it, going to fit in with the rest of the wood really good ...

Won't be seeing much use since the floor shifter only works the transfer case ..
Transmission shifter is a column shift ..

Wonder if that long ass rod is worth having ??

My truck never had it .. It came from GM with a TH 350, I built a TH 400 that took it place ...

Now the 400 has been replaced with a 4L85E .. Each time the tranny got swapped the transfer case got moved further back in the frame .. Poor old driveshaft kept getting shorter .. !

Sure looks like a lot of weight hanging off the tail of the trans..
With the NP-203 made mostly of cast iron, gotta be a hell of a load for the trans to deal with ..

After thinking about that strut rod helping with this problem, I decided to install it ..

Found a rod on eBay, it was made for use with a TH 350 trans ... With my gig being a oddity had to add bout 6 inches to it ..

I would venture to say it's more of a help than a hindrance.

Ditto ..

Parts for the top radiator hose will be here today, that is the last of the work to complete the engine cooling system ..

Almost ... Needed to extend two of the factory (IH) rad. support braces about 3/4" cause of the aftermarket rad. dimensions was off some ..

Ordered another brace just to save from doing two welds to the one I have ... Just one weld will tie the two brace rods together ..

Opps ..
Got only one hose camp that will work ..
The other three are to big .. Eek !
Oh well, just ordered the right size that is needed .. (I hope)

The tube connector worked out the best ...
Could have replaced the radiator's top outlet, that would have eliminated the need for the connector tube and two clamps .. But would had been more work on my plate to do ..

I'm good with the rigging that's there ..
Don't think it will cause any problems ..

Top rad. hose looks kind of busy with the three clamps in play ..
I was wondering what to do about a support for the transmission dipstick, seems that problem cured itself ...

Could clean up the mess on the top hose with using this hi-tech hose clamp ..

Stop cold water leaks with a unique, easy-to-install device that replaces conventional hose clamps in vehicle cooling system applications.

Gates PowerGrip® SB® Clamp is made from a heat shrinkable thermoplastic material that provides a dynamic seal.
No need for maintenance! Unlike conventional clamps, these clamps never need retightening. Additionally, they are completely resistant to all automotive fluids.
PowerGrip® SB® Clamps are available for hoses
from 1/4" through 3-1/8" I.D. For best
performance, be sure to select the
recommended band size to the closest fit.
The special cardboard brace prevents the
clamp from shrinking when exposed to heat.
Do not remove the brace until you are ready to
install the clamp ..

But !! ... If I did use this bad-ass hose clamp I'd've to make a support for the dipstick ..

Think I better leave well enough alone ..

Gotta say that is slick as a minnow's peter !!

I really like your Corn-binder GMC! The "hi-tech" hose clamps are installed on many new trucks I work on. The issue is removing them. Unless you are very good, cutting off the clamp, you need a new hose when done.
