What did you pay for a square

1981 c30, 2wd dually. 427T, th400, super short. Modified to be an aircraft tug for Kirtland AFB. Paid $200 and traded 4 15in steel wheels to the guy at the scrapyard.

1975 Chevy C60 wrecker, with a Holmes Comander1200. 427T, 4 speed stick with a 2 speed rear end.
Got it for $2500, clean title.


1976 Chevy C60, 18ft flatbed.
I think a 366T, 5 speed stick with a 2 speed rearend. Runs on propane. Got it for $2000 also titled.

July 2024, $5300 for a 1977 K10 short-box step-side dual tank, rear slider, front bumper guards, 350, auto, a/c, power windows and locks, tinted glass, gauges, tilt and cruise. New bfgs 31x12.50 and aluminum wheels. Also came with a canopy which i sold. Body in pretty good shape. Needed the usual.. rockers and cab corners.
Installing a lift and 33's.

Bought my 1984 Chevy C30 crew cab dually for $3100 in 2021. Bought my 1991 Chevy R10 Suburban for $5000 in March 2024.

I paid $6000.00 for my 1981 Chevy Silverado 4x4 K20 in 1984-85. 350/turbo 400/4:10 gears(Recent Photo in Avatar) It had 56k miles on it.
Still has Original paint. I added 4" DC springs in front, 2" blocks in rear, 16x10 eagle alloy rims, 35" tires, a new hi-perf built motor, etc

Current value in 2024- $2,000,000 according to the young kid local Idaho hillbilly's

I'm a little embarrassed to say what I paid after reading what you guys paid.

A running 1975 or older (no smog) k-20 in So-cal is a rare thing these days. I've seen deals but if it's a drivable fixer-upper, they're generally low 5 figures. If it's a rust bucket and the entire motor is in the bed of the truck you can find those for around $7k.

Let's just say mine was still in the 4 digits (barely).

Naw, still have truck stuff to do with it yet. Still all in under 2100 in roller running only condition here. It only goes up from there

So, I'm not really sure what my Grandpa paid for her in '93 when her got her from a friend & coworker. But he gifted the truck to my mother as a high school graduation present. I remember the day he brought the truck home.

She drove the truck throughout the 90s, until about '03 or '04, when the fuel pumps failed. At that point she went to sitting in my grandparent's back yard. Then the truck was promised to me to be my first truck by my mother about that same time. I just had to get her running and get my license. Then in '06, as I'm in driver's ed, my mother up and sells the truck to her high school buddy, for $500. While the truck was titled in my Grandpa's name. It has never been in her name, ever.

I'm late '07, we bought her back, now running, but slightly modified with obnoxious exhaust (which somehow got stolen the night before we went to pick her up, from a fenced in property). I don't remember exactly, but I'm 95% certainly that we gave $1900 for her at that point. I think it was mostly my Grandpa that paid for her. Because I remember he went with me to pick her up with my '99 K3500 I had at that time. I distinctly remember hitting a little whitetail spike buck on the way home.

Unfortunately, in 2007, while I was legally able to drive, I was not legally old enough to transfer a title into my name. So her title went into the fire safe, pending me turning 18, as she was bought back for me. I worked to pay back her cost, over the next couple of years. I wound up having to completely rebuild the throttle body to get her run decent and idle without assistance, as the injectors were leaking horrifically by that point in her life. So I think I invested roughly $200-$250 into the throttle body gaskets and injectors, and she was good to go.

Spent the next year or so with her down at my buddy's place tinkering on her alongside his '87 Chevy R10, where she still needed exhaust, and had one tire that kept going flat. After a year of tinkering on her at his place, I moved her back home, where a few weeks later, she caught fire when I went to start her. It completely slagged the negative cable and lightly toasted some other wires.

Well, as a result of that, and life happening (as it does), it was 2018, when my Grandpa passed away before I got back out there to do anything with her. It was at that point that I realized I had never transferred the title into my name. Went to get it out of the safe, and it was gone. My mother and I had suffered a fallout a few years prior, so I suspected she had taken it. But I kept checking with the DMV, and it stayed in the name of the lady we got it back from. Then I suffered a couple of job losses, so I couldn't afford to get the title work taken care of in a bonded title until recently. $40 for the application, $100 for the bond, and then about $250 for the taxes, late penalties, and registration and title fees, shes now in my name.

So, that's the scenic route of saying that getting her back and in my name cost me about $2500 roughly, and 17 years of my life (mostly because I'm an idiot at times)

Technically it was my mother's truck, as far as my memories of it go, but my Grandpa is the one that bought it and I now realize it was actually always his truck. I guess it makes a lot more sense why he and my mother always seemed to have issues with each other, related to this truck. My Grandma told me a bit more about the constant friction between my mother and Grandpa the last few months. It apparently was way worse than I ever realized. But hey, it's nice to have yet another piece to remember him by. I've got his '72 F100 and his '02 Silverado 1500HD as well

Ha, this old post just popped up.
For the record, this truck above is not the one I bought.
What are the odds, 2 of the same color basically same condition Big10s for sale in the same region about the same time?

Regarding prices for these trucks, or could be said about older or classic vehicles in general, the values, unlike a new or newer car are so wide-spread and subjective and everyone “knows what they have” so it’s hard to place an exact value on a specific vehicle.
One thing is constant though. “Most” sellers are looking at their glass 3/4 full when it’s really 3/4 empty. It’s refreshing to see when someone isn’t trying to get some ridiculous amount of money for what they have. Those are the sellers I don’t mind paying a little more to, because they’re realistic and realistically there’s some inherent value in the condition or work done, that the seller isn’t trying to capitalize on after binge watching every old car show on TV.

I never said what I paid for either square afaik, as I believe that’s generally a persons own business only. But can see the value in it for like minded folks who are analyzing what I said in my post above. (Out of touch sellers).
So, details of the 2 trucks I have are all over this forum, but short story is I gave $8k for the 86 K20 4 years ago and $7k for the 77c10 this year.
Both had/have partially and mostly reusable interiors, drive anywhere the day I bought them with low mile drivetrains. Both need/needed very little mechanical work. 95% everything works, gauges, power accessories, lighting, etc, no rust basically needing paint jobs and interior refresh. The vast majority of the after purchase expenses have been customizing not “fixing.”

Top half is a 78 K15 Jimmy. The bottom half is 1979 gears, and a whole pile of money got it all rebuilt.
