I'm looking for a replacement air intake breather that will fit onto the original 4brl quadrajet.
I'm wanting to eliminate the snorkel tube, but I don't want to "hack" the original.
I'll gladly hack a replacement..lol.
Yes, I run the breather lid flipped over.
Of the aftermarket breathers I've found, they don't have the correct notch cuts to fit on the Q-jet correctly.

So, any suggestions would be helpful...thanks.

I'm talking about the big round metal can with a lid and a long snorkel. It's usually painted black from the factory and houses a big round air filter which traps dirt from getting into carburator..

Somehow, sucking air in thru a 1-1/2" snorkle opening just doesn't seem fitting for the long tube headers w/ 2-1/2" dual exhaust .
And if the factory snorkle was good, why can't I find a replacement in any where?

I do appreciate the perspective though.

Your engine will give more performance with less Cold air than all the hot air you can give it. (Naturally aspirated speaking)

because why would you replace them if they work? if you cant find the duct itself you mean, then you simply havent looked for it im pretty sure.

If you go to a GM-related classic car show there will be vendors with various air cleaners to fit the Quadrajet. Some are even dual a snorkel design that allow you to use both cold air intakes in your truck (there should be a 2nd hole in the support on the driver’s side, but it is only used for the 6 cylinder).

Or a pick and pull yard may also have air cleaners with a bigger snorkel. However, for some reason many junkyard engines are missing the air cleaner.

The exhaust flow doesn't matter if your engine can't overflow the exhaust. You have a 350? The snorkel is more than sufficient, especially since it's forcing air straight in. Cut the shield off the front of the inlet mount and you'll have ram air.

The 80's housings have a good sized inlet for the snorkel. The snorkels should be available on any of the truck sites. Lmc has them. Haven't seen any aftermarket housings with a 3 or 4 inch tall filter like the factory setup. Also pcv and charcoal can breather ports.

Like said above, don't know if you've ever been in the engine bay while at full temp on a hot day. It's more than HOT, AND that's with the hood open usually not running. Easy horsepower is lower intake temps.

Waste of time if its a stock engine but I use this one. My unpopular opinion is there's not gonna be a big enough difference at road speeds to worry about the difference in intake temps. Especially with a cast iron intake with exhaust crossover and EGR. Sitting at an idle- yeah there's a difference.

I bought a new snorkel from LMC truck parts.

I can follow your thinking. Look on ebay etc. For an Air cleaner for an l69 305. They have dual cold air snorkels. Some other GM products had them also but can't tell you off hand which ones.
