Want to add the kick panel housings, and my own speakers. Not interested in the pre-loaded ones. Any have experience with the current offerings and their fitment?

We recently installed a set of these kick panels from TPD hifi in my buddies truck. They come with Morel Nano speakers, sound amazing and no mods required.

Wow the TPD pieces are nice but definitely not cheap. Why are they $200 more for manual windows???

Yes, they are expensive but they are expensive speakers. Roughly $700-$800 of the cost is wrapped up into the speakers. Over the years I've been in both the audio business and the restoration business. I have built custom kick panels the old fashioned way on a router table with templates, fiberglass and filler and just based on "hours" billed I don't think any came in under $1200 (not including the speakers). Then you have to upholster them, which I would do myself to save money because the upholstery shop wanted $200-$400 to wrap them. Now you're roughly at the same cost with a set of $99 coaxials and they still won't clear the parking brake.

Morels are incredible. They don't sacrifice sound even with the shallow woofer. For the level of speaker they are, they are a bargain. Most speakers in this category are $700 - $1000.

For someone that just wants some background noise, sure there are less expensive options, but if the listener or the build warrant a good kick panel speaker, these are hard to beat.

I like them a lot and willing to spend some money when I do my stereo. I am definitely naive when it comes to stereos so this is out of my comfort zone but I do plan to reach out to them.

This is gonna be an unpopular option...

I cut my kick panels (in 1997) and mounted speakers directly to the kick panel itself. My original speakers (Rockford Fosgate Fanatic P's" were 'just' a little too deep for the space so I ran 1" spacer rings.

During my restoration I kept the speaker holes since they were already there but this time I sealed the two separate spaces inside the kick panel from each other. Inside there's one cavity connected to the cowl and another cavity connected to the A-pillar/door pilar and rocker panel.

These 6.5" Kicker components fit without the spacer rings, there was enough space behind the speakers for some acoustic foam too.

^^^^^^^^^^^^This^^^^^^^^^^^^^^. I plan on doing some modification to my system this winter. That is exactly the photo I have been looking for. I'm thinking about running some 8" woofers in those voids. Currently I have an " acoustical gap" between my 6" and my Sub. And I don't like the positioning in the door. If my ears were on my ankles it might be better. That reminds me of my ex, but that's a different conversation. Anyway, you got any more pics of that project?

I’ll look for some more pictures…. 8’s would be pretty difficult to fit. The 6.5’s are pretty tight as is.

Maybe in the area where the fresh air vents are could accommodate an 8” but you would need to fab some custom trim to make that work.
