After about 4 months of waiting I received the behind the seat storage tray. Not too hard to install, just had to remove the shoulder belt retractor. Fortunately they had scored cutouts to remount the retractors for my ‘77. Other than the wait pretty happy. Photos of before and after.

I'm still looking for a plastic or metal storage tray for my 84. American Van shows one, but when you go their website, they don't even carry it. I'll work on building my own I guess.

What about a piece of house gutter or piece of sheet metal stud? If your not looking for fancy

Why is the top edge of the back piece so uneven? Is there a piece of trim that goes over it to hide the edge?

My truck has holes in the metal, which I assume were used to hold the top of the tray, but if there was trim there it’s long gone.

It's an accurate copy of how the factory made them.

Yes, I picked one up from American van a while back. It's a shame, looks like the discontinued them. I modified mine and have it out of the truck because i have to replace the cab mount bushings. I can send you measurements if you need them. cheers

By the way, the stock pic i added is incorrect. Mine did not have the vertical divider.

Threw away the old pasteboard original and made a new one out of wood purchased from big box store. Made to my specs and stained. Made it tall enough to hang stuff on, such as a 4 point lug wrench.

When I got my truck from my dad last year it had that type of tray screwed to the back of the cab.
It was full of junk, spiders, etc.. and was in badly broken. I tossed it and welded up the holes. If it was in good shape I would have considered keeping it.

The pasteboard one I had was a wreck. I wasn't trying to keep it original, so I did this. I glued a couple of 1x2 inch boards in the detents in the cab and then screwed the rifle rack into the wood, so I didn't have anything going through the cab to the outside. I also used the original type of corner speaker mounts. I am very happy with the look and the sound deadening quality of having carpet there.
