Probably a stupid question, but I'm wanting to replace both diff fluids, as well as the transfer case fluid.

The old girl has quite a bit of crusted up gunk on the cases. I've done some light scrubbing, but it's on there pretty good. Can I just soak with a bit of degreaser, and pressure wash everything? Any downsides?

Do it before you change fluids just in case, and for staying clean. If you're really worried about it both the transmission and transfer case have a breather on the top of them, you can temporarily plug those for washing, a bit of a pain. I don't think it's necessary. I've never had an issue. Just don't blast straight down those breathers.

I like gunk original and super clean.

Thanks Drifter! I didn't think there was any reason not too, but I'll be careful with the breathers just in case!

Just don't linger at the sealed areas and you should be fine.

Don't know if this will help, I drilled 2 holes in a Sawzall blade and screwed it 2 a wire brush. I use the cordless Sawzall with the wire brush cuts way down on scrub time.
