What's the secret to doing this? I once tried running the older caps on my yellow van and from what I remember, the plastic lug caps didn't have enough thread engagement for it to hold on well.

I haven't actually done it (since I don't have the alloy wheels yet) but I've seen many trucks on gmt400.com that have the 400 cap on the 800 wheels, and I swear I've seen some on here too. Been told on gmt400.com that it's doable. The plastic nut covers and lug nuts that they go on, are used on both series' trucks. There are also SAE thread lug nuts that are made with the threads on the top for the plastic covers; I had a bag of them but they're mislaid in the shop. I know they are SAE and not the 14mm that my crew cab and Burb use, because I tried them on the trucks and they were the wrong threads.

Thinking about it more, I sort of remember some plastic stand-offs made into the backside of the caps that would have needed ground down so they would fit the aluminum wheels better. I didn't want to modify the caps since they are hard to find now. Or that could just be a bunch of BS that my mind just fed me, lol.

That may be one of my aversions to them. But never liked the look at all. One of GMs poor decisions in wheels. Who tf is using 16x6 wheels on their flagship HD trucks all the way into the 2010s? Was like a slap in the face penalty for all Duramax buyers for the first 10 years. Spend big bucks on our truck and still have to get wheels to run bigger/wider or heavier duty tires…
And I wouldn’t consider them rally wheels.

even though I missed the aluminum part at first, you’re asking for something that is not produced fairly certain.
There is one company that make Al Chevy truck rally’s. US Mags or something. They’re about $1000 a piece and iirc, only big sizes like 20-22”.

They are not made in aluminum. The rally wheels were steel, painted silver with a stainless trim ring and chrome center caps. Anything aluminum would not have the trim ring.

if you’re unsure if a wheel is aluminum or polished steel, and magnet will let you know instantly. Aluminum isn’t magnetic.

Now that I think about it, GM always seemed to limit the 8 lug stylish options on older trucks. There was never a factory 8 lug Rally or aluminum wheel on the squares and never an 8 lug “saw tooth” on the GMT400s.
