Got the first long start out of the Jimmy today, had it running for 5 minutes before we got smoked out, especially with no exhaust on it and it comes straight up at us at the motor. After REALLY looking at the engine compartment wiring, things don't look too bad. Some poor wires here and there, nothing major. I have a ton of spare plugs and melted plugs. In comparison to my dad's '87 Custom Deluxe (also TBI obviously with 350) with everything the same, except his doesn't have AC, everything seems kosher, which i know my dad has his set up THE way (he's previously restored it) so i've been walking a few steps to compare. His also doesn't use alot of the plugs, some are like cruise not being used, etc. I am missing the entire emissions setup on the passenger side of the block, solving a few stray plugs/hoses. This brings me to my next topic:
I know a guy in town the wants to sell his '88 GMC Suburban. TBI, 350, AC. Everything is there, it's been sitting for a while, doesn't run, fuel tank is rusted out along with the whole rear frame. This is something i need to get. I could park it right next to my Jimmy and literally swap parts over like that, keeping things dang near original setup. He's got the grille i need in good condition. Has a bench seat that SHOULD work for me, although the Burb is red and white, so it would need reupholstered. But i'm going to talk to him Saturday and see if i can get it off him. Nothing better during a restoration than to have a dang near complete duplicate RIGHT THERE.
So if that works out, i'll swap all missing components over, purty her up a bit with loom because apparently the PO didn't know it existed, and she'll be a runner. On the outside at least, interior is still a different story haha
PS when i'm done with the Burb i'll part it out to you fellers
