I said NEAR impossible. But if you wanna show me that it's possible and actually perform the mod yourself while keeping the filler in the original location and the tank in between the rear frame rails then I say do it! :) The rule is, though, the tank has to be completely filled up when you're done and you have to be able to fill up the tank within 10 minutes without having to babysit the pump nozzle.

For rear collision protection, I would probably weld in a 2" square tube from frame rail to frame rail at the very back of the truck. Maybe evens stack 2 tubes for a 4"x2" tube.

My Nova has the bumper filler and there is no way I would set up a truck like that. While I don't intentionally abuse my stuff, I do use my trucks and on more than one occasion, I've used my bumpers. I wouldn't be worried about collisions as much as I would be worried about being unable to fill the tank.

yeah, this truck isn't really used much like a truck. It'll have different stuff in the bed (which is why it'll get sprayed with bed liner soon) but nothing to where the bed is so full I can't fill it with gas. It's definitely not making any trips to the dump or anything like that. If I get a chance to do it over again I'll use a tank that I can have the filler come in from behind a flip down license plate.

You could still do it like I was talking about, if you look inside the bed where the filler is you can see the bed is slightly modified to clear the filler neck. Just modify the inside of the bed to make it work. I mean hell, look what you did inside the cab! The bed should be cupcake stuff compared to that.

I'll definitely look into your idea once we start finishing it off. It sounds like a great idea and I'd never really given that idea a thought before you'd mentioned it and it would look clean:) makes me wanna go out to my truck and start looking back there right now :)

What is the fuel capacity on that tank? I'm guessing its a 31 gallon Blazer tank? I wonder how a 40 gallon Burb tank would fit? Although 31 is probably enough. In this day and age, its not likley I'd be taking any of my squares on a very long road trip. I'd probably rent a ricer for a long trip to say Los Angeles or used to be frequnet hang out, Laughlin,NV/Bullhead City, AZ. I rarely have both 20s full anyway. IF I were to fill up all my vehicles incuding the bx van, no exaggeration, it would cost me over $500.

It's a 20 gallon tank, which was all that was available at the time. That might have changed now, though. I bought it from www.classicparts.com. I probably go about 250 miles between fill ups which lasts me like 2 months or so with only driving it a few times a month.
