What new tools have you got lately?

Swung by HF for a couple things today. Was looking up various digital 3/4” torque wrenches the other night since I’m using GM TTY bolts for the heads and crank on my ‘05. I borrowed my buddy’s snap-off to do the blue truck but I need to do this truck, that one again, my buddy’s ‘04 soon after...

Holes drilled Hung it back, lifted the whole thing enough to remove the steer wheels so I could throw the bolts through and tighten them, put the wheels back on, then also decide to drill some holes to reinstall my handle. It’s MUCH easier to move around now

I had originally planned to re-loom the entire harness, but didn’t have enough braided loom. So I just focused on what was completely crumbly I really didn’t have a lot of energy today, just kinda piddled around. Once I got the looming done, I decided to piddle with the toolbox for a...

Started today off by opening some of the parts I’ve ordered the last week. My China-Kool 40k cooler got THROWN by the Amazon guy  Thankfully it was ok, just had the hardware bag busted open Missing 2 washers, otherwise everything else was good Took the crank out and lightly...

Worked on getting the bottom end apart after work today. Started by cleaning off the tops of the pistons with some Gunk and a wire brush Pulled the pistons. Little wear on the bearings but not bad. Rod and crank journals look fine

Talked to a couple machine shops about hot tanking and putting cam bearings in, they want $300+ for that. My coworker has the tool and I have bore brushes so I’m just gonna do it all. Also decided against the flat top pistons and 799/243 heads I was contemplating. Not worth the $500+ for this...

Granted I am not the expert on cam bearings but the ones in the LH6 I put in the square didn't look like that, at least not that I remember. I broke the rules and looked at that one too lol

So that’s where we stand as of now. Gotta figure out what rings and bearings to order. The original oil pan gasket is still there, rivets and all, so standard bearings ought to be fine I guess. Found some flat top 4.8 pistons on RockAuto I’m debating to get some more compression. They’re GM...

Got the cam out. And I couldn’t help it, I looked at the cam bearings. Could see the difference in the top and bottom of the bearing from 5ft away. Bottom is smooth, top is rough. All the bearings I could see were like that. Crap. Can see the 3, 4, 5 mains on the cam show some more wear...
