Joe is right. Used OEM modules are now our best choice. Chinese are unreliable.
Alex, your 86 305 may have a knock sensor on the passenger side lower block. A green wire that goes to the HEI. If so be sure to get the correct module for your 305. I have the OEM part number someplace if you need it.
Rylan, try snugging down the screws attaching the carb airhorn and the four that attach it to the intake. My guess your carb needs a rebuild but checking the bolts costs nothing. It may only be a vacuum leak.
Good luck and let us know what you find out?
12bolt & Clifford performance as others suggested. An intake exhaust and carb are NOT cheap but would be a significant upgrade. Your 84 would have that awful one piece intake/exhaust and it's likely cracked or soon will be.
Thanks Andy.
Yep, it's the darn number 8 port header bolt location. They are over an inch different. LOL
It may be both Andrew and I would be better off with headers. I know for a fact Summit SUM-G9006 fits mid 80's C & K 10's very well. I was just trying to cheap out.
Jon, I removed all emission equipment. But do have PCV connected of course.
To answer your question. Headers by Summit (SUM-G9006) will fit our truck perfectly with Vortec heads I know this for a fact.
As you know Vortec heads are slightly different than Gen 1 heads. Vortec exhaust runners are...
Andrew, not sure if you know the stock 86 manifolds on your truck will not fit your "new" vortec heads. If you got the vortec exhaust manifolds I'd be very curious if they fit your 86.
In my case using 059 casting vortec heads on my 85 305 and need exhaust manifolds that fit.
FWIW I strongly...
I've installed vortec heads on my 1985 305. I'm aware the 85 stock exhaust manifolds don't fit correctly.
My question is; will 1996-2000 Chevy GMC Truck Exhaust Manifolds fit my 1985 C10? Has anyone done this?
I'd like to retain cast iron manifolds. As I understand it headers would add very...
My error using the computer control to describe my 85 carburetor Rick. Again thanks for the clear easy to understand information.
My carburetor is similar to the one Chris has.
Also good to know about the pump shot. I've read a number of different things to do with this.
Rick,
I appreciated your detailed suggestions.
After some research I was very confused. Come to find out the carburetor on my truck is not stock. It's the correct year but for a manual not automatic. Also its not an E4MD type.
I'll finish the carburetor rebuild tomorrow but won't have the...
Matt, I did in fact order a CCC kit from Cliff's. Should be here this weekend. :)
Just removed the pieces after soaking overnight in 50-50 water pine-sol. Very clean and looks nice.
Thanks for the tips everyone much appreciated! I am NOT an expert.
Chad, if it fails to function correctly I...
My new to me 1985 ran poorly but did run. I've removed the heads and started the Quadrajet rebuild. Just pulled to top off to find......
All 13 top plate screws were finger tight.
It appears the pull-off man shaft was not through the choke lever hole inside the main body.
In the pictures...
Second what Brian said about the glass fuel filter.
John, it's a Quadrajet CC carburetor I'm assuming. If so the fuel bowl is small and can heat up. A non metallic spacer between the carburetor and intake could help. GM made a heat shield that fit our trucks. Both could be had for < $100.
