Yeah reminds me of my 928. The rear hatch was pretty heavy and when the struts got weak that thing would mouse trap the hell out of you... -
I would think that after a few years, it would also increase the chances of a mouse trap effect.

Gets rid of the springs an makes the hood open/close smoother. You still have to lube the hinges but it should also reduce the chances...
