1989 Suburban Fan Shroud

I am trying to find the correct fan shroud for my new-to-me 1989 v1500 Suburban, with a 350, air, and automatic.

When I purchased the truck, the fan shroud was missing, so I ordered what I thought were the correct parts from LMC. The parts came, needed a bit of fettling to let the upper shroud and lower shroud mate properly, and then I began the install in the truck.

I found a 2" gap between the upper and lower shroud, and I don't see how to get it to mate properly. I measured the size of the radiator, there are 19" of cooling fins top-to-bottom on this radiator. The inside of the radiator is quite rusty, and the fluid is toast. Radiator replacement is not out of the question.

The radiator support brackets look great and appear OEM, so either a previous owner swapped the radiator and brackets, or LMC sent the wrong parts, or LMC doesn't have the parts I need for my project.

Can anyone help? I will take pictures and post, but when I was working on this last night it was just too dark and all my pics looked terrible.

I measured mine as best I could with the shroud in place and 19" for the radiator seems accurate. I also measured the top half of the shroud and it's 10.75" from the bottom lip to the top mounting hole.

I may have an intact one from my 87 v10 parts burb, if youre interested. I have several actually.

Depends, some are in ok shape, some are **** (broken pieces, etc)

Ok, so I’ve got pictures of the top radiator mounting brackets.

The top half I just got from LMC looks like it is 11” from the part that goes above the radiator to the bottom half mounting flange. This is part # 32-2832 from LMC. It’s supposed to be the upper shroud, 350, with AC, for the 89 suburban.

The bottom half is like 8.5” from the top mount flange to the top of the curve. This is part 32-2833 from LMC, which is supposed to be the lower shroud for all 350s between 81 and 91.

Maybe my entire problem is the mounting method at the bottom of the radiator support? Can anyone take a picture of how the mount is supposed to attach?

And here is a picture of the fan support. I tried putting the ears of the lower shroud in the slots on the rear edge of the support, but that is when I found that the top and bottom didn’t mate.

Could you measure the dimensions of the ones you have? I am really stuck here. I am not sure even which parts to look for.

It looks like GM only specified an AC and non-AC shroud for my truck.

They list 15980519 as the upper shroud, and 15980518 as the lower. I am pretty sure that LMC sold me the right parts, but without something to go against, I have no real idea.
Does the lower shroud attach to the bottom of the radiator support, or does it attach somewhere higher up on the radiator?

I thought it just slots on those on the bottom and bolts maybe too?
I can go look at my 2 piece shroud remnants and see how it went in. mine is a 1980 and my radiator appears shorter too, but the bottom part should work the same?

I have the clips, both part "10" and part "8". The part 10's work great in the slot shown in the markup photo I've just attached, and I could make it screw into the two slots on the lower radiator support as circled in the picture, but then the radiator is too tall. Is your radiator 19" or 17"?

From what I understand, the 17" unit was for manual transmissions, and the 19" for autos? I have no idea if that is correct.

If I need to put a smaller 17" radiator in, and then purchase the different brackets, part "12" above, I guess that's ok. But I'd really like to know which shroud works with this 19" radiator.

For reference I have a manual transmission, a 1980(different core support), and no AC. So I wish I could be more helpful but maybe something?

perhaps the one piece or the two piece that isnt top and bottom but like... stacked like cups almost.. one sits closer to the fan and the main part hugs the radiator.

It looks like my radiator is about 2” taller than yours, and mine has provisions for an Automatic Transmission Cooler, too.

The picture of your lower shroud and clips is very interesting. I will experiment with the clips in that position today!
