Came across this forum looking for official tow ratings, found a document in a members-only section of the forum so I registered to be able to see it. Howdy!
Here's my '87 R10, TBI 305/700R4, believed indicated ~85k to be original. Clean solid southern truck. Bro in law picked it up super cheap, drove it for a bit and decided an old truck wasn't for him. Wifey and I picked it up off him for not quite as cheap and threw a bunch more money at it (tires, exhaust, rear bumper, tune-up, tonneau, hitch, trans cooler & gauge, brake controller, etc). Still in for far less than it'd go for now.
End result... nice ride for doing weekend projects. I always loved these old square bodies. I grew up when they were current so there's a bit of nostalgia. I wish modern trucks were built with the simple styling and modest proportions of these, but with modern capabilities. I do feel like I push the powertrain to the limit towing, have considered regearing the rear end (currently 3.08 I believe). If the engine/trans ever goes belly up, I'd probably swap something modern in.
