Geez… I’m feeling like a complete moron. Of course that plunger can’t come through the wheel. Duh!

Thanks for pointing out the missing lock plate. I’m on the hunt for one now. Everybody has been super helpful and I’m very grateful!

This won't help your horn issue, but it'll provide some comedy relief in the meantime...

I was 17, grandpa had just passed away and I was driving the '65 c20 he had got for me. I drove up to the softball games and watched for a few. I decided it was time to cruise around, and while backing up, the horn honked, not by me, but because it did, I waved like I meant to honk the horn. Then it honked again, one more wave, but feeling somewhat embarrassed. Then it kept honking off and on as I drove away, now it's not funny anymore, and of course people are watching now. Not knowing what was causing it I opened the hood and unplugged the horn.

I never did pinpoint what it was, I assume it was in the column, because when I tore it apart to replace the turn signal switch it worked after that.

I give up. Clearly I either have the wrong parts or something is still missing. When I put the lock plate in there’s a slot that catches the plunger and shears it out of the plastic sleeve. I guess I’ll have to pull the column and have someone else do it or replace it entirely.
