Hi Again,It's kind of a long read, but there's lots of good info in there.
Transfer Case Crossmembers & Skid Plates
I picked up a transfer case skid plate that I thought would fit, and went through all the trouble of cracking the bolts, and bringing it home, scrubbing it down to get all the dirt off, and then find out it doesn't fit... It came from an 80s suburban. I guess there are different transmission...www.gmsquarebody.com
Bucket, thanks again for sharing that link. I finally got a chance to study it and also to study the parts catalogs and now I understand it.
My '91 Suburban has what is being referred to as the "wavy" or "S" style crossmember. This was used on '87 to '91 4WD square bodies of all tonnage (1/2, 3/4, 1 ton).
From the parts catalog, the skid plate that goes along with this vintage of crossmember is:
4.500 SHIELD, TRFER CASE (PG4-103,15) 15548906
87-91 V1, 2, 3
87 V2 (06)
87 V2, 3 (03-43) (5.7K, 6.2C, J, 7.4N)
88-90 V2
88-90 V3 (5.7K, 6.2C, J, 7.4N)
For '85-'86 it is the "W" style
'85-'86 K1, 2, 3 15595210
Bottom line, what I'm looking for is a transfer case rock shield /skid plate from an '87 through '91 4WD square body
Thanks again to all
