So on my way out to help my buddy I go past a house that's had a GM rolling 4x4 chassis for over a month now. Sunday while we headed to the store we stopped and decided to inquire on the chassis. After talking with the guy, super nice, I kinda understand why he wants $1200 for it.

It is/was a '86 1ton railroad service truck. Has a D60 front end and 14bolt rear end with what he believed to be a locker, 4.56 gears with stock tires and wheels, dual gas tanks with lines still ran, all brake lines still ran, power steering box.

What do you guys think worth the $1200? Or should I try and haggle down but not a low ball offer.

Well it's been sitting out in the elements for awhile so surface rust but I'm building a ratrod and it's perfect for it. Especially for a lifted one. But manageable.

That's what I was thinking. The font axle alone is a keeper and worth some $$$$. Figured I was paying for it and a little extra for the rest of it.

I'd go over and verify that there is a operable locker in place. If so beat him down to $900. You have to figure the fuel tanks are a bit rusty on the inside, not much on that old cow but the axles.

True I didn't get too much into it when we stopped by. He was kinda in a rush. I just wanted to see what year and how much. He drove it before and said everything was fine and operable. But how well can you truly trust someone you do not know. I wouldn't use the tanks anyways. Just nice to see everything is still ran. I'll post a picture of it later, I left my phone in the car and didn't get a chance to snag one.

Only problem I would have is shelling out more money for a transfer case and driveshafts. I have a 358 that will be perfect for it and a th350 with shift kit short tail 2wd trans. That is if it is easily done converting it to adapt to a transfer case. If not then there's even more money for a 4x4 trans

Well, if I was paying more attention.... It's not worth 1200 as a roller. I thought it was a whole truck for some reason. DUH!
