Hey guys, I am new here and did some searching without much in results on a project I am working on.

I am currently working on a 1987 GMC Shortbed Stepside Pickup with the wood bed. I removed one of the old drop in bedliners and discovered the wood was of course rotten and it needed to be replaced.

I thought it was just removing this skid strips and the 8 main bolts and it would pop out... but the bolts closer to the cab are blocked off by the frame and I can't get to them.

What is the best way to go about removing the boards and metal skid strips from the truck?

Do I need to remove the sides of the bed or the whole bed or do I just have to use enough ratchet swivels to reach from here to china to get in there and take out the bolts?

Thanks in advance.

I'm sure it's easier to just remove the bed, then flip it upside down to work on it. The stepper bed isn't too awful heavy and two people can remove it.

It had a bedliner in it?

Yeah, drop in one. I have a build thread right now in the under construction part of the forum.
