Ok guys, I have a strange issue that I cant find info on anywhere. I bought my project truck and have made great strides in making this a street legal daily driver. I'm currently in the process of getting the interior refreshed and found wires run through the floor between between the two pieces bolted together that the shifter comes through. (Don't know the exact name of it.) It definitely doesn't look like it belongs there and without the carpet or anything on the floor it gets in the way of the petals. Any advice on how these wires are supposed to be run.

There is wires run to the front of the tunnel on My 78 K20.
I believe it has to do with the backup lamps on the back end.
On Mine there is a place for them to run through, sort of bent up wards to make clearance, appeared to be from the factory like that.
In the pic. I dont see that bent up portion, is it at the back portion of the tunnel ?

Ummm...yeah...that's not factory. I would trace them and see where they go and re-route them properly. If they shortout under the carpet.....smoke...then possibly a small fire. I would think that someone just ran wires the shortest distance that they could. Whatever the case, they should be re-routed.

They run under the dash and are plugged into the sm465 tranny. I did not see a bent up area for them to run through so I'm trying to find how these wires were run from factory to reroute them appropriately. I agree and assumed they had something to do with triggering the reverse lights.

Which wires?

I see factory wires on the floor. I also see aftermarket wires in a loom screwed to the tunnel.

GM used to run wires on the floor under the carpet all the time on trucks. Not tucked off to one side, but like where your feet go.

The aftermarket wires were removed already. They went to spotlights on a rack that used to be in the back. Those factory wires are just kind of pinched in-between the floor and the tunnel. The previous owner even left a bolt out of the tunnel to allow room for them. (the hole seen just above the wires in question.

On my K30 the wire goes to the transfer case. It's for the 4WD light on the dash. Are there wires that go to your transfer case shifter to back light the shift indicator? I don't recall if the shifter was lit up back when I had an 87 K20.

No, no grommet. It's starting to sound like Boonie is correct, so would it be recommended to just home fashion my own relief in the tunnel to free the pinching on the wires and leave as is?

IIRC, the wires are actually supposed to exit the truck between the tunnel and the shifter boot/bezel. Rather than between the floor/tunnel.
