Does anybody have experience with replacing this round trim piece that goes in the windshield rubber? I see they are available at LMC and probably others but I’m wondering how they are to install.

Definitely purchase a lock strip installation tool.

I would purchase the Lisle 48600 Offset Windshield Locking Strip tool,

I have both the Offset and the straight Lock Strip Tool and found that on the windshield the offset tool worked best.

Both can be purchased off Amazon for about $15.00

You should watch the installation videos on Precision Replacement Parts on installing the WCR-848 gasket.

It is relative easy but takes time and paying attention ..I would suggest buying two of these as if you damage one you have another to continue with ... The lock strip WLS 848/8563 SP is available at Rock Auto for $12.91 each ..

Use a foamy spray window cleaner for lubricant and get you a little pick to put the lock strip back into the groove if it rides out ..

Use help for getting the lock strip in going across the top of the windshield.

It takes time .. watch the video a couple of times and just have patience.

Good Luck

Not near as hard as installing the windshield/gasket.
But virtually impossible without the trim tool. Get one of those and you’ll be golden.

If you get a chrome lock strip may try to “dull” or round the edge of the lock strip tool.
I had a new lock tool and managed to scrape the chrome plastic coating in a few spots.
