Here's a good video that shows the install and shows the "non-lock strip" version. I've done the install of this one on a buddy's '73. I'll never attempt that again lol

Ok. Thank you. That makes way more sense now. And looks not fun.
Lock strip looks easier.

So to confuse the issue more, what the hell is this?
Was there ever an aftermarket wide chrome trim strip or factory one?
Pic is of a random 1980 for sale, never seen a solid chrome wide strip covering the whole windshield gasket, but this is what I envisioned between the 2 versions I asked about at the start of this thread.
FWIW, it doesn't look "right."

Is the lock strip the same on the windshield as the rear glass?

I would venture to guess yes, but the rear would require you to cut the rear lower corners if it only came as a single strip. I never like the chrome lock strip, so I switched to black. For the rear I just used the standard window gasket, as it was less expensive than buying the gasket and black lock strip. You'd never notice.

It's probably harder to get the rear window in with the standard gasket, but I did it on my last truck with a slider window using a rope and liquid soap.

@Craig 85 yup it's the same. I got this one for 13 bucks https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002CXOQC6/
It took about 10 minutes to change it. Most of the time was cleaning the groove out. I got this tool and it made the job super easy https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N006N0D/
I pained my corner cap pieces.
Here's a before and after
