Got a free box of parts from a guy I've been dealing with. In it was this bowtie grill badge, in blue.
First one I've ever seen, but then again I haven't really paid attention to badges all that much.
The truck was a 80 diesel Silverado if that makes difference.

I also got a diesel hood ornament in good shape, any guesses to the value?

I’m gonna go ahead and guess that the blue bowtie is from a 69-72 pickup. I’ve got what I believe is the exact same one on my 70 c10

Hmmm... you might be right, He has a 70 silverado.

Yeap, looking at some venders catalogs 67-72 were blue. I guess it's not as rare as I thought. lol

It may not be rare but it’s original and in decent condition. Mine is busted up in the center so you’re ahead of the game already lol

Nice find. Not to get off subject but the 2019 150th year special editions will be blue.

Most of the bowties in the 60's and early 70's were blue, cars and trucks.

The hood ornament should be worth a little something if it’s in good shape. I’d wager $50-$75 for decent to good shape.

I think you meant 1500 Special Edition. Chevrolet has only been around since 1911.

If it's from an '80 it was an Olds Diesel. Does the hood ornament just say "Diesel"? The 6.2s say 6.2 Litre on them. Unless somebody is doing an especially correct restoration with an Olds 5.7L (Which I would find VERY hard to picture) I doubt it's that collectable.

The story I've heard from some of the guys who used to work at Buick City, is that ford sued, or threatened to sue because the emblem was blue. That's why they claim it went to the yellow/gold color. Don't know how true it may be, but that's what they claim.

I've never heard any reason for a color change at all. Other than that's just what they do to change the look. Many of the 80's cars used a silver bowtie, and then the sportier versions of things later on got the great looking black bowtie with a red border. Then in '95, the base model cars got blue colored bowties again.
