I’m looking for a reputable vendor/specialist that can check, inspect and possibly rebuild a steering column. Years ago I was very lucky and found a 1977 GM truck tilt steering column that is for a floor shift model like mine. I’d love to get it installed to give me a little extra room behind the wheel. Does anyone know of someone that can help me out? Thanks in advance for any assistance you can lend.

Ummm probably any good "old school" mechanic. Not sure how capable you are, but with a few special tools and some patience it's not too bad of a job.

If you are looking for more room than just what the tilt feature can give you; Squarebody Syndicate sells a shortened column. I believe it is made by ididit. A bit pricey, but all brand new.

If you spend some time searching online, there are 2-3 companies that rebuild them for you and one company that has a step by step manual and sells all the parts.

I used an ididit tilt column for my 69 mustang project. Pricey but real good quality and fit.

I thought along those lines originally, but I remembered my father-in-law use to send his Chevelle columns out to a vendor for rebuilding. The columns would come back like new, with all new components and repainted, ready to install. Unfortunately my father-in-law passed away before I asked him who the vendor was.

I agree for the price of paying some one to do it you could get a can of spray paint and a couple special tools and do it yourself. you would save a bundle, it's not that hard. highdesertranger

Sadly, that vendor is probably gone too...
