Looking to purchase a GM 454 crate motor to replace the tired 454 in my 1979 C10. but unsure which one still uses a mechanical fuel pump. There isn’t a good machine shop anywhere close to me.

Gen VI BBC production units removed the fuel pump boss. All new GM crate motors are Gen VI blocks, but Gen VI crate motors still have the fuel pump boss. The only real difference on the Gen VI blocks is that they have roller cam provisions, a 6-bolt timing cover, oil galley improvements including integrated oil cooler ports, and a slightly different balance point that requires a Gen VI specific flexplate or flywheel. They are also single piece rear main seal. Which one you should get is mostly dependent on how much money you want to spend. For overall truck power, I would recommend a 454HO... but $8k is out of my budget.

This was the part number I used in 2017/18 when I got mine. GM 12339193 It looks like GM has discontinued it though. I got lucky when I did mine as the block that was in it was only a 2 bolt and the replacement was a 4 bolt. The replacement block was a 1990 and still had the fuel pump mount.

Check out Blueprint Engines website. Can't go wrong and comes with dyno chart and a warranty.

Just my last experience with Chevy Performance..... ABSOLUTELY NO SUPPORT if you have an issue. I cannot believe the run around one gets.

Never had that problem! Not arguing with you. I’ve had a answer on the initial call or a call back within the next thirty minutes with a solution.

I am going to put up a separate post on this as soon as I get my last oil sample results back and make a decision on what to do next. I purchased a chevy performance 350 from Summit in 2021. It has had high lead, iron and tin in the oil samples since it was new. I tried calling summit once a pattern was forming, they gave me a number to call, I called and they basically told me Chevy performance handles issues through their suppliers and does nothing until something breaks. So here I am without any help from the manufacturer.

Mine was ls3 from local dealership complete. Was going in 1983 c10 as a project for my niece. Had issue with treads for the bell housing to bolt transmission in. One call to gm. Dealership was authorized to replace it. They picked it up at my shop and delivered another ls3. Took 3 days to get new engine delivered. That is why I run the threads on every engine I put in, before I install it. I have a great relationship with the local dealership here. Again not arguing, just didn’t realize someone else was having these problems.
