What's the midway point between long bed and short bed?

I always thought the short beds looked too short. Just a personal preference I guess. But every time I see one I wonder what a mid-bed truck would look like. A truck with a bed length that was somewhere between the long bed, and short bed. I'm guessing this would be a rare modification indeed. Anyone got a pick of one? I'd love to know how it panned out.

IIRC the long bed is 8 foot, and the short bed is 6 foot. Might be misremembering that though. So the mid bed would of course be 7 foot. But would that actually look good? Maybe the best idea would be a 6.5" bed, or a 7.5" bed.

Squarebody Syndicate built a crewcab. I believe they added 4" to the cab and shortened the bed to 7'. Looks very proportional. I believe Kyle from Metalox did the sheetmetal fabwork.

Judging by the tank door it looks like a barely cut down short bed on a long bed chassis.

edit: Now that I've looked a little better, could just as well be a long bed cut down.

If I remember correctly, the extended cabs were just modified long beds, so the beds on them are an 8 foot cut down by a 1 foot or so, so that there would be your medium bed. I believe they're technically a short bed, but the wheel arch is in a a slightly different location, making for a longer overhang in the rear.

I'd say the midpoint is between the fuel fill and the front of the wheel well.

A crew cab dually and and a crew cab lwb have the same bed length and wheel base length. There are some chassis cab duallys that have longer wheel bases, but they never came with fleet side beds from the factory. I have always thought the 7 foot beds that resulted from converting a regular cab lwb into an extended cab looked the most proportional.

The only problem you would have is to find LNB steps to cut down for your 7' bed. No one that I know about reproduces the long bed step, and they are really tough to find (ask me how I know). I suppose you could fab them out of 2 of the new SNB steps, but not sure if there is enough meat to make a visually appealing end result.
