I have a 1982 k20 Chevy pickup with a 6.2 diesel engine. Recently it will not shift into 4th gear or OD. I am posting some pictures from the tranny. I think it might be a 700R4. Any help regarding the shifting problem would be greatly appreciated! The second picture with the two wires are from the drivers side, the other three are from the passenger side.

I'm not good with 700's but I do know that was the only o/d automatic trans offered regardless of engine, options, tonnage rating, etc..

That's 100% a 700R4. They are considered pretty weak transmissions to begin with and the first years are the worst of them. I believe 82 was the VERY first year for a 700R4. For what it's worth, 4th gear IS OD. I would guess that you aren't getting 4th gear AND the torque converter is not locking up.

Is there something I can check for the torque converter?

No upshift (you remain in third gear) or does it shift and you feel like its in neutral?

I remain in third gear. Once I get over 30-40 mph she’s starting to rev pretty good. Unfortunately I don’t have a tach so I can’t give you the rpm’s

Count the number of times it shifts. This sounds more like your transfer case might be in 4lo.

It shifted from 1st to second, second to third, nothing after that. Sorry about the confusion.

well that's two times it shifted then...

Still, even with a 700R4, it should not be revving out at 35mph. When I had stock tires on my truck, it still wouldn't hit OD until almost highway speeds. 35 is pretty slow. Now with 33s I don't hit OD until I'm actually on a highway going like 60-70, and even then the torque converter doesn't lock until I hit about 80. On a 700R4 the 1-2 shift is very short, 2-3 is much longer, and 3-4 is way late. IIRC these things have like a 70% OD ratio or something stupid tall. What axle gear ratio do you have? What tire size are you running?
