Quick backstory on this Oil Pressure Switch socket that I picked up today at AutoZone. As some of you know, I've been working on an old Dodge Dakota off and on for the last several months. The oil pressure gauge hasn't worked since I got the truck and I just noticed this week that it was starting to dribble some oil out of the sensor. Had some time today so I decided to tackle it. Don't you just love those days when a 5 min job turns in to a 2 hour adventure?

AutoZone in town had the sensor in stock for $16.95. Super excited to actually find one, I run down to the store, grab it and head home. Now I've done a few oil pressure sensors over the years and I have always just used a socket out of a nice set of ultra deep Craftsman 1/2" drive sockets that I have. When I got home, I pulled the new sensor out of the box, try it against my sockets. 1 1/8" fits perfect. So I grab it and crawl under the truck and go to remove the old one. The sensor is located directly above the oil filter and behind the acc drive belt. Get my arm up through a small hole in the lower plastic shield that you access the filter through. Contort myself to get up in there and of course, the 1 1/8" is too big on the original sensor. Slide back out and get the 1". Repeat the contortion process and you guessed it.......too small.

Back in the truck I go to the parts store for the second time to buy a $10.99 socket that I'll probably never use again. It works great. But you would think at some point I would learn to buy the correct tool when I'm at the store the first time instead of making it an all day adventure....LOL
