Hello!

I have a 1976 Chevy K10 Scottsdale 350, automatic transmission. Can someone tell me what this 2 prong Plug is above the oil filter? It's the exact size one would plug into a wall outlet (though obviously not in this case lol)

That would be for an electric choke setup from a later vehicle. With no oil pressure no voltage to the choke coil, with oil pressure it lets voltage to the choke coil and lets it heat up and open the choke.

That way if you are KEOF (key on, engine off) it’s not wasting battery heating the choke.

Plug it into an extension cord. Report back.

Unless the part is bad, that would be unexciting. It needs to be plugged in AND engine running for a good a thorough report, lol.

Oil pressure senor #2. It does loop into the electric choke circuit. It is also an early style "SES" light. If there is an issue, like low oil pressure, the choke light will begin flashing.

This sensor is used up until 1986, I believe.

It wouldn't be original in a '76 model year though. You would still have the manifold mounted thermostat spring in that year, then it switched to a hot air choke into the early 80's, then an electric choke somewhere in the mid-80's I think.

We had a new 84 K10 the Mrs drove as I was gone much of the time in the navy. One day while home, she mentioned that there a weird flashing light on the dash. After checking everything out it was 2 quarts low on oil. Truck wasn't even due for its first oil change. That how we found out it consumed a quart every 1000 miles and stayed that way past 100k, with no smoke.

1976 was the first year for the hot air choke, with the introduction of the “mod quad,” however, which I think I solved it (this had puzzled me for a long time) only trucks below 6000gvwr received the mod quad and hot air choke. So F44 (big 10/heavy half) 6050+ gvwr would receive a non mod quad, and divorced choke as they lacked emission equipment (federal emissions), until they raised the threshold for 1979 making the f44 trucks equipped with a cat, EFE, EGR at a minimum.

My 76 is a 5400gvwr, 350 4 barrel that was equipped with EGR, EFE, and a cat, has a 1976 dated mod quad carb and hot air choke.

My 79 is a 6200gvwr 350 4 barrel, that was also equipped as my 76, also with a mod quad carb and hot air choke.

So if OP’s truck is above 6000gvwr it should be a divorced choke and non mod quad, below a mod quad and hot air choke.

From the 1976 pickup brochure.
