I had this problem with idling and response in my 88 tbi, tech guy recommended dropping the fuel tank and replacing fuel pump and sending unit....fixed my issue... good luck.

I agree, it is definitely the usual symptoms of a weak fuel pump.
Reminds me of when my fuel tank sock was completely screwed possibly a issue @JamesSam

@Ajax19 , and @Redfish ,

I am thinking by now you both have replaced tanks/sending units/fuel pumps on your TBI trucks by now. Could you guys both tell me where you got your tanks from?
I have looked in to getting all new tanks, pumps etc...so I have a general idea of what I would be spending and the work it would require, I would just like your perspective on which ones(where you got your stuff) you chose and what you experienced. Since you both have the TBI sickness like me.
I have read many a thread and watched many a video on dropping and replacing tanks. It is quite an intimidating task(for me) especially with dual tanks...whoof.

@JamesSam i bought my new tank, pump/sending unit and selector valve from Oreilly. All fit great and worked fine for the years prior to selling the truck. (My 1987 R1500, 350 TBI)

@JamesSam when I bought The Truck the tanks had already been replaced. The PO told me they re-used the fuel pumps.

Initially I felt that the RH tank must have a weaker pump than the LH tank but as time has passed I can tell no difference. You could have a switching valve issue, I am assuming you have not tried switching tanks to see if the truck runs better on one pump than the other.

I don't think dropping the tank is that bad of a job. Of course I have some jacks and things to help me.

Both of my tanks used to work then the drivers side died on me one day. I would switch periodically to keep things flowing, so I have always had an idea that this tank/pump/selector/sending unit issue would be abrupt and necessary.

I’m glad we Canadians are now referred to Canadastanians, granted that dimwit of a PM we have up here I understand and agree with the reference, just so we are clear some of us aren’t opposed to becoming the 51 st State, S!ft the American fast food culture is overtaken us already.:birgits_tiredcoffee
