Several smaller jobs today. Replaced the cowl screen after spraying the inside of the cowl with WD40 and wiping it down. Cowl was very clean, no rust. Then replaced the tailgate glass guides as the old ones were chipped and broken. Replaced the firewall power distribution block and PCV valve and called it a day.

I don't know what Ted's exact "wants" are, but it needs to be good enough to pass a PA safety inspection so he can drive it again, lol.

Curious about the WD wipe down inside the cowl. Just to keep stuff from sticking in there?

Helps prevent corrosion.

WD-40 was developed by the Rocket Chemical Company under contract to the DOD to protect the thin aluminum outer shells of nuclear warheads from corrosion as they stood in their silos. Water Displacement Formula # 40 (hence WD40) was the ticket. Eventually the DOD allowed the product to be offered commercially.

I actually knew that but had forgotten. Good point! I know alot of people also use it on undercarriages/wheelwells/backhoe buckets/etc cuz it helps keep stuff from sticking as bad

Well, once again I was wrong. It was pure coincidence that the noise went away during my troubleshooting. The fan clutch was NOT the noise. It was the alternator. That alternator has less than 5K miles on it and I paid good money for the AC Delco part. I remember when I installed it that it would growl with the belt as tight as I thought it should be. I backed off the belt tension and it seems to be fine. I am not happy with it but I will drive it a bit and see.

Not happy with it or me. At least I have a new fan clutch...whether I need it or not.

Got out to the garage and routed the O2 sensor cable into the cab. Then, since someone before me chopped the bezel to bits for a radio that no longer exists, I formed a piece of plastic and mounted the AFR gauge in its place. Tomorrow the bung gets welded onto the exhaust.

Through the mess of wires, I sorted out the various speaker wires and isolated the power for the radio and ground that I’ll repurpose for the gauge, and put a wimpier 5 amp fuse in the radio fuse per their recommendation.
