2021 is what I got. Haven’t sprayed any yet. Hope it lays down nice. I haven’t painted anything bigger than a bumper or fender in quite a few years. I’m sure I got some trial and error ahead of me too.

The clear seems great I'm still leaning also. I have way to many pics lol. I bought this truck in 2017 and started on a year long process of all the mechanical stuff IE new ls 5.3 new trans,Rebuilt Transfer Case, new drives shafts, new leaf springs, all body and suspension bushings. New Steering box and links
I really spared no expense and tried to buy the best parts...
Then i daily drove it till last year. Disassembled the complete body,completed a ton of rust repairs and finally putting her back

So in the next few days we'll be @ 105-115 temp wise so I got a couple things primed. Not bad for a rookie, Thanks Tamco DTA primer! Using a new tool also 3M Accurspray gun with 1.8 tip.

Installed some of the United Pacific LED tail lights. They’re super bright and I love the sequential option.

But I do have an issue. Key off, everything functions as it should. Dimmer running lights, brake lights. Key on, lights off, turn signals and brake lights function correctly.

However, key on and lights on, the running lights are now full bright and hitting the brakes does nothing. So gotta figure that one out…

Looks GREAT! Been thinking about using the Tamco DTA myself.

Where did you get the racks to hang the doors on?

Took mine in for it's biennial (2 year) smog check. It passed easily, thanks to some prep work with the catalytic converter. These aftermarket honeycomb cats work well but don't seem to last very long. My solution is to keep a new one on the shelf and install it just for testing, then put the old one back on for another two years. It's not hard to play by the rules if you know where to bend them.

Spray bomb repaint at some point, didn't remove the tail lights.

Interested to know what you think the paint history is on your truck (same color, similar/same year).
It's obviously not original paint, nor was mine.
Appears mine was sanded almost completely to bare metal (can see remnants of the original black primer in places) and re-sprayed with a very good adhering (to substrate) beige color primer. Fairly high build too, not just a scratch coat.
The repainted single stage OE colors. But the paint, while adhering to the primer good enough to not peel anywhere except on little spot for presumably a LONG time, easily peeled off the primer.

In this pic you can see the ribbons of color coat on the hood that peeled up rather easily with a razor blade. Cold, it would flake off, heated up, would come off in long ribbons. Probably 95% of the truck peeled like that save for a few select areas mostly where the dark blue was oversprayed outside the strip and then covered with light blue. I'm still a little mystified how that paint stuck for so long and didn't even come off with a turbo nozzle on a pretty healthy pressure washer, yet peeled like a banana

So how did you strip the old paint off? Sand it? Chemical strip? Or was it just peeling? The guy who does my powder coating will media blast mine - walnut shells and/or glass bead on sheet metal - very reasonable price wise, but a PITA to get it there and back is all.

Just like that pic. Peeled it all off with a razor blade scraper.
It came off easy. But time consuming. Hindsight maybe I would have had it blasted and then done detail work and spots that couldn’t be reached, by hand.

Finally got one axle back - front is supposed to be here in a week. Had to mod the dolly again. lol The gears were bone dry/clean so I drizzled a quart of synthetic 75-90 over the gears as I turned the axles and pinion before putting the cover on. Got another 2 +/- qts to go.

I think the truck has just had a ****** Maaco job or something done on it years ago. There’s a couple places on the windshield gasket where they didn’t tape it off well and it’s got blue on it. Also the plastic vent below the cowl is light blue when it should be black. When I took the cowl off, you could see the shadows of the louvers.

When they cut the truck down, they spotted in the bedsides and cleared the whole truck. But the clear didn’t adhere well and is starting to bubble/pop off. The LF fender is the worst spot (you can see it in the picture, dead center of the wheel/above the body line) and there’s a spot on the hood that gets water under it when it rains, looks like a blister lol.

I’m just gonna let it do it’s thing, I won’t have body/paint money for a long time. If it gets real bad, my buddy and I will just scuff it till the flaky stuff is off and we’re down to good adhered stuff and re-clear.

Here’s a couple more shots, you can see all the bubbling on the door and the fender. And the really light spot I’m pointing to on the hood is what gets water under it lol
