I wonder what is actually happening here... Does the foil stick to the rust to give the appearance that it's all chrome again or is the rust actually removed by the foil? What does the oil do? So weird... but it looks like it works to me so no argument just wondering how.
Nah, I think the way it works is that the actual pits themselves are very small. The rust you see is mostly the staining around them. The aluminum is softer than the chrome so it doesn’t scratch it, and the oil just acts as a lubricant and maybe a solvent to dissolve the stains.
So the pits are still there, just too small to notice. It definitely doesn’t “restore” the chrome, but makes it look a hell of a lot better.
