Finally got the carb adjusted just right for cold weather, needed to richen the air/fuel mixture screws and the choke. Funny how those things that effect idle also affect driveability...

My wife's Rainier just puked again though, so i guess I have to go spend time with that instead now. I swear these old squares are far more reliable - anybody else agree with that or am I nuts?

I agree but it's a matter of opinion/taste.

Many (most?) people would say that because we keep having to tinker with the carbs and replacing gaskets and fluids, that they're not reliable. But from my limited experience, these trucks never stop. No matter how badly out of tune I have my engine, it just wants to keep pushing. And, most important, they're easy to work on. They're friendly and inviting and play nicely with whatever parts you want to put under the hood.

Now lets compare that to a modern car owned by an average person who know's squat about the mechanics of the car they're driving. The car may drive well without any maintenance for a while but eventually something will break and then the owner will be screwed because it will mean a major repair or replacement.

Before I bought my truck, I drove a '94 acura legend. Other than a CV shaft replacement and a thermostat replacement, it was the most reliable car ever. Until the head gasket cracked. The only way to replace the head gaskets it to take the whole engine out, which is an extremely daunting task because of how the engine is packed into this tiny engine bay. The car was killed. Is that reliable?

Did a Big 3 upgrade and swapped from a 700CCA batt to an 850. Also added a distribution block under the dash with one leg constant 12 and the other on key switch. Will be wiring up a new radio, cell booster, power converter and USB ports this week (since I already have the parts). Also may try to do a hard mount for GPS in the dash and add a 2.5" tach in the empty hole in the dash

Water pump took a dump today :suicide: so replaced the water pump, radiator, and lower radiator hose. I would have replaced upper hose, tstat and belts too but they didn't have belts or upper hose in stock :nono:

Degreased, pressure washed, and Ospho'd the engine bay on the 88' in prep for the LS. With any luck, I'll get it painted up today. Supposed to be about 80* out , so it should be plenty nice to get it done.

Towed the K10 back to the house this weekend from the shop. We'll see how long the city stays off my ass about it. Hopefully I can at least get the 4.10 ARB Air Locker Front Axle installed before I have to take it back. I don't have electricity at the shop since I don't spend enough time there to justify it.

What size are the Jokahamas? Can you say how much? I need to be looking for tires for C20 too. I'm going to go back with the OEM size. I like that taller thinner tire in the OEM size, and it looks good with OEM White wheels and dog dish hub covers.

Those are the factory spec LT235/85R-16

I got them from tire rack for something like $125. They seemed like a good tire based on the reviews that were posted and I've been happy with them. Better than the no-name junk that I replaced for sure.

Yokohama makes a good tire and I like the tread on those that you got :waytogo: Those should perform well in most situations I would imagine.

I have never heard anything bad about the GeoLanders. And I've never heard not to buy them cuz they go flat sooo they're probably pretty good tires.

Yeah, I think they should get the job done, either for me or whoever comes in the night and leaves the truck on blocks :)
